The TEN: 5/10/2019

(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

1. The Lakers are unable to reach an agreement with former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue and the coaching search continues. Frank Vogel, Jason Kidd and Juwan Howard are now reportedly the top candidates.

There is a small crowd of peaceful protesters outside Staples Center this morning to show their displeasure at the way the Lakers are being run. The skinny on this is that Jeannie Buss continues to lean on trusted friends for advice on basketball matters, namely Linda and Kurt Rambis. If these two eventually depart the organization, I suppose Buss will have to consult Tarot cards for her day-to-day support.
In any event, Lue is not coming aboard because the team (incredibly) is reserving the right to assign assistant coaches to whomever they hire. The fear is that Lebron will seize too much power. Which begs the question: why did the team sign this superstar in the first place? Did they expect him to mentor the young players in Luke Walton’s ways, or did they want him to replicate the title runs of Cleveland?
At this point, it is literally true that Donald Sterling, racial baggage and all, would be a more capable owner than Jeannie Buss; that’s the pathetic reality.
