1. The Denver Broncos beat the Atlanta Falcons 14-10 in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.

2. Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil unretired to sign a one-year contract with the New York Jets.

3. Vic Fangio made his debut as the Broncos head coach despite being in a Cleveland area hospital most of the day due to a kidney stone.

4. Melvin Gordon’s agent Damarious Bilbo requested that the Chargers trade the running back after the team refused to budge on their initial offer of  $10 million per year.

5. The Houston Astros acquired pitcher Zach Greinke from the Arizona Diamondbacks for four players.

6. The bench clearing brawl between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds Tuesday night resulted in the suspension of six players and both managers. Yasiel Puig, who was traded to the Cleveland Indians during the game, was suspended for three games.

7.  The Dodgers announced  that Joc Pederson will no longer play first base and Cody Bellinger will return to that position from right field.

8. On this day in 2012 American swimmer Michael Phelps won an unprecedented third consecutive gold medal in the 200m individual medley at the London Olympics.

9. Also on this day in 1979 New York Yankees catcher Thurman Munson was killed in a plane crash in Ohio at the age of 32.

10. The Rams kick off the preseason Saturday August 10 against the Raiders in Oakland.

    Actually, what the Dodgers said (according to the L.A. Times) is that Cody Bellinger would be moved from right field to first base whenever they have Max Muncy starting at second.
    I guess their plan is to do that when they want to load their lineup with lefthanded hitters. Then, they could play either Joc Pederson or Alex Verdugo in right. Both are good outfielders, and both bat lefthanded.

    #7 Thank you. But I think Cody is too valuable in right field. Muncy plays a good 1st base. How about some of these new infielders we picked up this week?
