Falcons Pound Bulldogs

By Rich Whittington

(Pasadena) – The Crescenta Valley Falcons utilized a potent and methodical ground attack, as well as a stingy, hard hitting defense, to literally “pound” the host Pasadena Bulldogs Friday evening, en route to a 28-17 Pacific League victory.
The game started off to resemble a rout. After winning the coin toss, Pasadena deferred, giving CV the first possession of the evening. The Bulldogs held CV to five yards of
productivity, forcing a Falcon punt, and giving Pasadena the ball in great field position.

Pasadena ( 3-1, 0-1 in Pacific League play) was then able to post the first score of the game, as quarterback Dante Coronel connected with Akil Andrews for a 29 yard touchdown “catch and run”. The PAT attempt, courtesy of Fernando Simenthal, was successful making the score 7-0, with 7:05 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Bulldogs added another score in the quarter, when Au’dante Bailey found the end zone on a 1-yard blast. Simethal’s PAT attempt was good, making the score 14-0, Pasadena at the end of the first quarter of play.

In the second quarter Crescenta Valley evened the score. The Falcons (4-0, 1-0) cut the lead in half, as Sebastian Deleon scored on a 20 yard run, with 9:42 remaining in
the first half. The PAT, added by Anthony Sharlakian, made the score 14-7.

This tandem added another second quarter score, as Deleon found the endzone on a 2 yard run, and Shalakian added a second successful conversion attempt. This made the
score 14-14 at halftime.

In the third quarter Pasadena took another early lead. The Bulldogs took the second half kickoff, and drove 51 yards toward the end zone. The drive stalled, forcing a 19 yard Simethal field goal attempt which he nailed making the score 17-14, with 9:56 remaining in the third quarter.

CV answered the scoring challenge, mounting a 6 minute, 77 yard scoring drive, cumulated by a 1 yard TD jaunt by quarterback Chase Center. Another successful Sharlakian
conversion attempt made the score 21-17, CV, with 3:55 remaining in Quarter number 3.

Crescenta Valley added a final score in the fourth quarter. The touchdown, an 11 yard run, was again added by Deleon and it was 28-17 with 5:04 remaining.

The Falcons had a barrage of contributors to their success. In addition to the aforementioned scorers, James Cho carried the ball 21 times for 191 yards, enabling
the Falcons to keep a potent Pasadena offense off the field. Additionally, the Falcon D pressured and knocked down Coronel all night cumulating in a “group
sack” by Center, Chuck Meyer and Logan Tourville. Last but certainly not least Aaron Garcia intercepted a Coronel pass in the end zone, literally sealing the victory for Crescenta Valley.

Next week, the Falcons will travel to Burroughs High School, for a Friday night battle with the Indians. Pasadena will also travel to Burroughs High School,
for a Thursday night game against the Burbank Bulldogs. Kickoff for both of these contests is 7:00 p.m.

Are we done hyping up the bulldogs? Same old Pasadena. They sure look great against poorly coached inferior teams but got their DELETED whipped against a well coached inferior team. After next week they will be completely out of the conversation .
