Big Night for Niko; San Marino Defeats El Monte 48-6

By Rich Whittington

(El Monte) –

San Marino quarterback Niko Mavridis celebrated a “Night For The Ages” Friday evening, leading the San Marino Titans to victory over the host El Monte Lions, 48-6, at El Monte’s own Lions Stadium.

Mavridis completed 19 of 27 pass attempts, for a total of 433 yards, and seven touchdowns. The Titans took control early, and did not look back, reaching the end zone on seven of their nine possessions.

San Marino scored twice in the game’s opening period. Mavridis connected with Andrew Hornberger for a 30-yard score with 6:00 to play. Mavridis would throw for another score in the first quarter connecting with Michael Prappas for a 20- yard score.

Brady Beck converted both PAT attempts, making the score 14-0, San Marino after one quarter of play.

The San Marino scoring continued into the second quarter, where the Titans would add another pair of scores. Mavridis connected with Jayan Anvekar for a 45-yard catch and run. He then found Hornberger for a 7-yard scoring connection. Beck added two more PAT’s, bringing San Marino’s scoring total to 28 points at halftime.

El Monte’s lone score came with 1:43 remaining in the first half as Joaquin Andrade scored on an 8-yard TD blast. The 2-point PAT attempt was stopped, making the score 28-6 at halftime. El Monte never got on track in the contest. Turnovers and penalties stopped drives and caused the Lions to play the majority of the game from behind… and deep in their own territory.

The San Marino onslaught continued into quarter number 3. Another quarter, another pair of touchdowns. Marrdis Mikey Yessaian for a 25-yard TD. Mavridis also connected with Ryan Park for a 76- yard score. Two more Beck PAT’s made the score 42-6, with one quarter remaining in the contest.

San Marino’s final score of the evening came at the mid-point of the fourth quarter, when Mavridis found Jayden Hollomand for a 94-yard Touchdown.

El Monte’s next game is scheduled for Thursday when the Lions will travel to Alta Loma to play the Braves. San Marino’s next contest is Friday as the Titans will host the Fillmore Flashes. Kickoff for both games is at 7:00PM.

Poor El Monte Highschool another victim of the Team El Monte click. This group controls Mountain View School District, El Monte school district, El Monte city council, and the city of El Monte. These people only care about boosting there popularity and using the city as there stepping stone, they don’t care about the city or the kids.

Ceniceros should still be there. Romero is a joke! The Admin. at the school screwed this one up royally. Even if the talent was not as good this year as 2019. They would at least be competitive. 104-6 in just two games is ridiculous.

This is what the admins wanted now from 16-0 with coach Cenceros to maybe 0-10 with this coach. I don’t want to hear about how the talent is different because even though it is from what I hear there’s kids sitting out and kids left that wouldn’t if coach Cenceros was there. Admins you ruined a program that could of been competitive for years and to think it was another alum that did it.
