All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated:
Thursday October 7th
Pasadena (4-2) at Burbank (1-5) (Burroughs)
Pasadena is up, Burbank is down. Pasadena has Mekhi Fox and Kaden Taylor, Burbank doesn’t. The only question here is on here is why does Pasadena have another Thursday night game? Dena rolls.
Pasadena 42 Burbank 7
Friday October 8th
Alhambra (2-4) at Schurr (3-3)
Both teams need a win to make a move in he Almont. Both are coming off of wins but their opponents were the bottom teams in league – Keppel and Bell Gardens. Alhambra struggled to put away Keppel while Schurr routed BG. The Spartans look like a contender in league. Schurr comes out on top.
Schurr 31 Alhambra 13
El Rancho (7-0) at Whittier (2-4) (California)
El Rancho got the win it needed last Friday night against Cal, but the Dons aren’t about to let up now. Whittier took care of Santa Fe and needs at least two more wins in the Del Rio to have a shot at playoffs. The Cards won’t get it here. Elijah Mitchell, Anthony Bonilla and company have too much. The Dons remain unbeaten.
El Rancho 35 Whittier 17
Arroyo (6-0) at South El Monte (3-3)
Arroyo is also unbeaten through six games. The Knights schedule hasn’t been exactly murderers row but they have done what they had to do. Arroyo has outscored its last two opponents 104-0. South El Monte has been Jekyll and Hyde. The Eagles pounded Gabrielino 49-14 last week but lost to Baldwin Park 57-7 the week before. Both teams have played Glendale. South lost to the Nitros 32-20 while Arroyo blitzed them 49-0. The Eagles will have trouble keeping up with the Knights passing attack. Arroyo goes to 7-0.
Arroyo 45 South El Monte 13
Thursday October 7th
Arcadia (3-2) at Muir (4-1)
Maybe the best game in the Pacific League this week. It’s tough to get a read on either team. Arcadia has shown some offense in wins over Marina, Whittier and La Salle but the Apaches were humbled by Monrovia and fell to Burroughs. Muir has won a couple of low scoring affairs by scores of 12-6 and 6-2. The Mustangs opened with a win over Burbank last week to open league play. The Muir defense should be able to hold down Arcadia. Can the offense do enough? Muir wins a close one.
Muir 21 Arcadia 13
Friday October 8th
Pasadena Poly (3-2) at Monrovia (6-0)
Monrovia is going undefeated in the regular season. The Wildcats won’t be tested until the playoffs. Pasadena Poly got a nice win last week to open Rio Hondo League play but it won’t be nice for the Panthers Friday night. Monrovia dropped 60 on a La Canada team last week that some thought was going to compete. All Wildcats.
Monrovia 48 Pasadena Poly 7
Baldwin Park (6-0) at Rowland (2-4)
Baldwin Park has a raised a few eyebrows by going undefeated through the first six games. That won’t change this week. Rowland has picked up a couple of wins but over teams that were not the quality of the Braves. BP has out scored its last two opponents 112-7 and haven’t scored less than 34 points in a game all year. Braves win…big.
Baldwin Park 42 Rowland 10
Downey (5-1) at Paramount (2-3)
Paramount doesn’t have the players to stay with Downey. The Vikings have won five straight after a season opening loss to Corona del Mar. Downey gets started early and puts it away in the third quarter. Downey gets its sixth straight.
Downey 38 Paramount 6
Where are you Dez Dez? Cat got your tongue or are you choking on the Crow you’re eating?
Has anyone seen Dez Dez,oooohhh she only shows up after a SEM win.lol what a bozo Keep your mouth shut your make the boys look foolish with false claims.
Here’s a stat for your consumption. The average margin of victory for our posted area is a tick over 28 points. Most games are essentially over at the half.
Double D! Waaasss up? SEM got slammed!
Hey I’m sorry Friday Knights. You worked the chain gang tonight. You’re so important. The program needs you to do meaningless tasks. If not, they couldn’t function. Such a good assistant to the assistant. Good thing you were 3rd string in high school. You know what it’s like to be a scrub.
Dez Dez come out to plaaayyyaaaa! All this talk about showing up…lol go back to your swamp lil ugly ducking
@ By the Numbers: Thanks for the info, especially about CIF using the CalPreps ratings to determine the playoff divisions this year.
CIF is going to use the Calpreps power ratings to assign teams to playoff divisions at the end of the regular season, starting about a month from now. That lends a certain credibility to these numbers, which I’ve always used to figure which games are worth attending. The power ratings change every time a team plays, taking into account quality of opponent and key statistics. This service is not perfect, but in my experience, it’s at least 80% reliable.
@Dez Dez I a have question why didn’t you talk this big game last week, but all of a sudden you jabbering cause SEM dominated 1 game. I don’t really care to much for Arroyo but I do give them props so far this year. They have been play really good team bal and Dominating when then need to and I haven’t heard anyone from Arroyo really pumping there chest. Way to Stay humble. I hope Arroyo serves Desperate sorry I mean DezDez some humble pie. SEM people have always done this kind of smack talking after 1 big win for years now stop jinxing team dummy.
Lmfao @Dezzzz excuses? Aren’t you guys with all the excuses why you lost to Glendale why got spanked against BP and why you have players that don’t really want to play. The list goes on on.it’s always something at that school. Bring those 5 JR all Americans plays with you and watch them get stuffed! I just hope you post on Saturday and apologize to the Don, kiss the ring and beg for forgiveness.
@fridaytykes I hope there’s no. excuses tomorrow. I hope you have an appetite because you are gonna be eating a lot crow chump. That big mouth gets closed tomorrow night
@ By the Numbers: It’s long been my position that MaxPreps’ algorithms are fatally flawed, but maybe CalPreps’ are somewhat better. (I’m a lot more familiar with MaxPreps, but I’ve seen CalPreps ratings occasionally, and most often when some are posted here.)
Let’s see how the games you mentioned (and others) turn out, and then we can discuss this fascinating topic some more.
There she goes again… but a ticket sit in the stands and enjoy the show. Speak when spoken to!
These game night forecasts always lists the team, followed by its record. If, instead, the name were followed by its Calpreps power rating, we’d have an instant grasp on the matchup at hand. Here’s how that pencils-out this week: Pasadena (16.4) vs. Burbank (-8)…..Alhambra (-33.8) vs. Schurr (-2.3)……El Rancho (19.9) vs. Whittier (-7.4)……Arroyo (3.1) vs. South El Monte (-21.2)……Arcadia (-0.1) vs. Muir (13)……Pasadena Poly (-10.2) vs. Monrovia (25.4)……Baldwin Park (-0.4) vs. Rowland (-31.8)……Downey (33.6) vs. Paramount (2.1). I’m sure we all enjoy reading the comments of our host and his faithful following, but the stark numbers have something to say as well.
Friday Knights, are excited for this Friday? “Hey you! Get behind that line.” I bet your daddy rips you a new one when you can’t keep the kids back hahahaha
Speaking of necks. Have you seen mine?
@ The other Anonymous: Could it be that money is being wagered on high school sports? If so, it would explain some of the intensity that we see on these comment threads.
@ Anonymous: A few wins might solve that problem, but I’m not going to guarantee it.
Imagine grown men fighting over high school football predictions. Talk about living a childhood through other people.
I wonder how many teams (La Habra, for instance) have decided to tank in the preseason, come back to life in league, and use those early losses to achieve a creampuff divisional placement in the playoffs. This would bestow a bargain-basement CIF title upon the programs that have decided to take this shameful route.
@ron what’s up with mid valley sports not showing your Alhambra team love
LETS GO DONS!!!
we eating BIRD again this Friday Night! lol… ill bring my own BBQ sauce! lol
Never sleep on Whittier tho, they coming for our neck.
Here we go… SEM vs Arroyo with some trash talk! Love it. Finally some normalcy. I like the North vs South angle as well, dub it the “Civil War” game. I admit I didn’t see SEM beating Gabrielino the way they did same as I can’t see SEM even hanging with Arroyo. But!!! If!!! If the same team that showed on last Friday shows up this Friday we will have ourselves a ballgame. SEM has some playmakers at Qb RB and at WR. But if they do win it’s gonna be because Cazarez has a huge game in the neighborhood of 100 yards passing and 100 yards rushing with no turnovers. Arroyo looks dominant on both lines. They can get after it on Defense and can pound it offensively. The passing game looks to be improving week to week. I’ll predict Arroyo 42-21 SEM Hangs around early but Arroyo pulls away in the second half.
Ok Dezzzzz we get it Dezzz lmfao. You come on here banging that birdie chest after a ONE victory even after getting your tails handed to yiu the week before SMH! Well Dez, challenge accepted! The North boys will be well prepped and ready for whichever team of yours decides to show up. Mu guess is Dez, you’ll choke again and blame some missing player or some athlete who kinda wants to play but kinda really doesn’t care lol. Yea that ain’t gonna beat our trench monsters! So much talk about your qb, we’re gonna show you who’s the best Qb in league! I’m thinking 42-14 final!!! What say you?
Arroyo is gunna roll..
Lmfao @Dez look at you making a fool of yourself haha one victory and your pounding your little birdie chest. Cmon chill out Dezzz
Dez are the last three letters of your last name right? You’re a trash bro. Any way back to the game I’ll be a little more specific, the game will be won in the trenches and that’s what we do. You won’t be able to run because your 165 pound lineman will be two yards behind the LOS! Challenge accepted! The North boys will be waiting for you guys!!! See you on Friday Dezzzy
Yo Double D, Arroyo gonna route SEM. You can bank on that. SEM can’t handle Arroyo’s offense or defense. We’ll wait to see what you say on Saturday after that beat down
BG beats Montebello for the first time in like 8 years.
@MVS I have to respectfully disagree with your prediction. Sure arroyo is the favorites but not everything plays out that way. Arroyo doesn’t have that typical passing attack so its gonna be won on the ground. also, @FridayTykes crickets no comments? The South boys are coming to shut that big yap of yours for once. We are firing on all cylinders and trust me when I say We are ready! 28-21 South Victory!
