This board is mostly old football guys who like to relive their glory days on here. Every sport has its place and truthfully Twitter is where most commentary takes place nowadays.

@ ELa: That’s right. Student-athletes should strive to excel in the classroom and in whatever sports they choose. It should be all about having a well-rounded high school experience made up of academics as well as sports and/or other extracurricular activities.

We can complain all we want, simply not enough people care about sports that aren’t football especially on this website, they could post about bell gardens beating Mark Keppel and it will blow up with comments, a baseball topic might get a few.

What actually moves the needle? I dont think its so much sport specific as it has to do with admin/coaches that can create a culture of school pride where students enjoy cheering for their team. Ive seen good teams hinder because admins dont show up but once or twice, the cheerleaders are going through the motions, the band is non existent, and the atmosphere is dead. Ive also seen bad teams where things are the opposite and the atmosphere is great. It really starts from the top with what the leaders of the school want to promote and buy into.

The morons that have an opinion about high school sports should just stay quite. The kids enjoy playing high school sports and shouldn’t matter what sport it is. They are pushing themselves and excelling in classes, what more do you want! Football is the more popular sport but that don’t matter after you leave high school. My hats off to you that compete and excel in class!!!

Baseball, basketball, soccer, you name it your team can be in the playoffs yearly and the truth is no one cares. Football moves the needle, maybe some of those kids that want to stick to one sport should consider trying football.

Baseball might be this areas best sport. Heck, even basketball has some major studs…
BUT, fans would care more about a non-league football game between Bassett and El Monte than an epic pitching battle between Damien and Amat. Football is king!

A few of those scores look like they could be from slow-pitch softball games. It appears that the pandemic has taken a toll on the quality of play.
