(Montebello) After losing on a controversial call last week against Cal High, the Schurr Spartans returned home to Ken Davis Field Thursday night and things didn’t turn out much better as Schurr lost to the South Torrance Spartans 51-15.
It didn’t take long for South to get on the board returning the opening kickoff to the Spartan 45. A personal foul was tacked on to the end of the run putting South in business at the Schurr 30. Two plays later Jaylen White scored on a 27-yard run. After Kyle Brown’s extra point South was up 7-0 with 10:59 left in the first.
With 2:11 remaining in the opening frame, South extended their lead to 17-0 on a 10-yard pass from Matt Espinoza to Dylan Schneider.
Schurr got their first score of the night on a 7-yard pass from Joseph Alvarado to Eric Montes. Alvarado did not start but came on to provide a spark to the Schurr offense.
South came back with another score of their own on a 15-yard pass from Espinoza to Schneider. The score capped an eight play 65-yard drive.
Schurr got their final score on the night with just :54 seconds left in the first half. Francisco Cervantes who started the game under center came back on to finish off a seven play drive bulling his way across the goaline behind the big guys up front. Schurr went for two and got it on a 2-yard pass from Alvarado to Efrain Martinez.
The second half was much like the first with South getting three touchdown passes from Espinoza to Brown of 14, 52 and 76 yards and White’s second score from 1-yard away. Espinoza finished the night hittin on 26 of 27 passes for 400-yards and the five scores.
Leading the way for the Spartans was Martinez who toted the rock 16 times for 67-yards.
Schurr needs go hire Matty v and let recruit kids back to schurr
That was pretty sad. I thought they made staff changes to have the more experienced DC make the calls now. Offense had flashes. They didn’t adjust to anything last night. Torrance is a good solid team . This was over before it began. Let see how the Spartans regroup and get better.
Dave Ramos should stick to being a stunt double in Goonies…
Trade in all the Nike gear! -it’s slowing you down!
It’s time to stop making hype videos and watch some film.
Schurr will be fine
All they need is 3 wins in league and they are 1st or 2nd in league and a playoff run.
Damn Ramos and his groupies are lucky they are in the sorry almont League. Smh
That speed all the Torrance teams have don’t compare to most SGV schools.
Lol
Schurr Slime can even beat ST at home. Times have fallen hard on the Spartan Slime.
