YOU SCARED? yup! you know whos coming ~*The Ranch*~ so LS keep your thumbs stuck up where the sun dont shine and puker up.
as for CiF , simple fix . someone already said it here
REMOVE ALL 4Team Leagues (MAKE THEM ALL 6Team or 5)
REMOVE ALL AT LARGE BIDS
ONLY AUTOMATIC QUALIFIERS CAN ENTER PLAYOFFS
LEAGUE CHAMPS no matter CAL rankings get placed 1-8, then 2nd place teams get #8-? (in order of cal rankings) , then 3RD gets ?-? in order of cal rankings
everyone is in the SAME FREAKEN division so it doesnt matter who they play… where they play .. but League champs should get a HOME GAME round one .
CIF is set. Nothing you can do about it this year. Enjoy the ride.
FBFan
Typical Bonita fan exaggerating there accomplishments, a 21-13 win is not a blow out, that’s one TD. Also, if Bonita had made the playoff ps they would have been in D7 that’s only 2 divisions higher then SD. Your arrogance and lack of math skills is your bad Karma. Is that succinct enough? Or do I have to explain that too?
BTW Bogan is a great coach and when he has talent he wins CIF titles. See all the banners at South Hills, apparently Bonita is holding him back.
@Friday Knights aahh cmon, Rosemead’s in the same division with a 3-7 over all record. Gab, Rosemead, & South were all tide at 2-3 in league. That puts SEM at 3rd place in the MVL 4-6. At least that’s how I see it. CIF makes the rules or the jokes.
Typical San Dimas Fan. Get blown out by Bonita, then try and brag about going further in the playoffs than the Bearcats in a cupcake division. Again though, tell me how this is karma??? You never answered that question.
I long for the days when about mid league, you could start looking at teams and leagues in your division to see who you might draw in the playoffs. With a thousand teams, no more fun times. Our league (MVL) got 4 teams in. We didn’t deserve more than 2. Sorry CIF, try to fix things next year your system sucks
FBFan
Don’t get your panties in a bunch, then you explain why Bonita didn’t make the playoffs? ….. I can hear you shuddering from San Dimas.
Karma! Btw Holman beat Bogan all the time when he was at Maranatha.
@ Joseph: League champions should not be playing each other in the first round of the playoffs. You’ve got that right.
CIF Southern Section has really messed things up. Previous formats were imperfect, but this system has got to be the worst one by far that they’ve ever devised. It rewards mediocrity (or even worse) and penalizes excellence.
@ SGV pride: I agree with you; the current CIF Southern Section playoff system is a farce. I had a feeling that it was a bad idea as soon as they announced it. (Which was after the 2019 season, if I’m not mistaken.)
Teams that have losing league records shouldn’t be in the playoffs, whether they’re in Division 1, Division 13 (which my favorite team is in), or Division 14. The fact that there are now 14 playoff divisions is making a lot of this nonsense possible.
In previous seasons, third place in the Almont League (with the usual 3-2 league record) didn’t always guarantee a playoff berth. There were a few years when only the first and second-place teams got taken. This season, teams 1-5 (out of a total of six) got in.
But since Alhambra made it, I’ve got to say, “Go Moors!” If you’re given an opportunity, you should do your best to take advantage of it. I just believe that CIF shouldn’t be handing out playoff berths to teams that have done so poorly in the regular season. A trip to the playoffs used to be a reward for being an excellent team, or at least a reasonably good one.
And don’t get me started on the current league situation in the Southern Section. How can it justify leagues which have only 2-4 teams? It should be able to come up with something better, given the fact that there are hundreds of high schools in the region.
The current leadership in the Southern Section needs to take a new approach to its divisions and playoff seedings, and I mean during the next offseason. Or, there should be a change in the leadership.
Sir, great points! In some ways I feel the old format was better. Then at you felt that every CIF champs was deserving. There’s a lot of teams in the upper divisions that are only in that division because they run their programs terrible. Now they get the chance to compete for a CIF title and good programs like Bonita don’t get a chance to play for a title. There’s pros and cons I guess. Sooo torn.
This CIF seeding is a joke and a disrespect to the game. no way teams with losing records should be in the playoffs. This isnt “everybody gets a trophy” in high school. Players and coaches worked their butts off to perform on the field, but yet some teams could go 10 and 0 and 9 and 1, but yet get punished and have to go play on the road in higher divisions than they played in during the year. What a joke CIF!
The Almont league had 3 automatic qualifiers, B.G 7-3, Schurr 6-4 and Alhambra 4-6 as Third team winning a coin flip! (not a FAN of coin flips!, Almont League needs to use a different tie breaker system, maybe CALPREPS RANKINGS?) San Gabriel 7-3 and Montebello 5-5 both applied as AT LARGE entries and both were put in based on the AT LARGE POOL! San Gabriel is D13, Montebello D12, Alhambra D13, Schurr and Bell Gardens D11 based on Calpreps system Final Rankings Strength Of Schedule. Almont league has never had 5 times in playoffs usually 3 or 4 get in? Almont league in Football is more less a D12-14 League, even D11 is to high for Almont League, something is wrong when Bell Gardens 7-3 is playing Bellflower 8-2 both are LEAGUE Champions ,in the same bracket in D11 Segerstrom 3-7 who finished 2nd is playing St. Margarets 4-6 who finished 3rd? It should have been Bell Gardens 7-3 vs. Segerstom 3-7 and Bellflower 8-2 vs. St. Margarets 4-6 instead? CIF needs to CORRECT and revisit the current system using CALPREPS Rankings to reward League Champions in the Brackets in the first round of play!
Only one team from the Del Rio cries every year about being a second place team. However, they are first in being trash talkers who can’t back anything up.
If your team treated well or at least fairly in randomized format , tendency is to not look deeper . Let’s goooo!!!
But sifting through some questions arise : Valley Christian????? 3-7 and 5th place finisher in Ironwood league at 1-4 gets in , and gets great seed and home game in Division 12 ?????
On what criteria are they even in playoffs ?????
Mary Star 5-5 beats St.Monica 5-5 at their place by 16 for 4th in Camino Real , but doesn’t get in;
St Monica in . Why?
The only answer heard would be: there wasn’t room in their division . Yet, the division parameters are created by the governing body AFTER season’s end!
I could go on about questions these blatant irregularities provoke . I only wish our social institutions made a clearer effort to uphold the standards of fairness and transparency they espouse.
What did Bonita do to deserve the snub (karma)
Who did they upset in CIF? Or otherwise?
@San Dimas Fanatic,
Karma for what? Whooping on you guys in the smudgepot every year? Talk when Holman can find a way to beat Bogan. Only time he was able to win a smudgepot was when Bonita was in there most down seasons in the last 20 years.
Yeah d12 for us… it still better than being a 4-6 SEM team finishing in fourth place in a bad league and still being rewarded with a playoff berth . If that wasn’t bad enough they put you in a bracket where you’re a favorite to win it all! What a joke!
@TheObserver your right on with your comments, to many negative people on this topic. It is what it is, at this point every team is equal. Yes, many teams have way more talent than others however in order to win the SHIP everything has to go right for the winning team. Injuries, play calling, ref calls, and just playing dumb luck. Some of these teams might not have done the greatest during the regular season but could get inspired to win that ring and peak as a unit at the right time. Like The Beatles said “Let It Be”
@Anonymous I beg to differ. The El Rancho fans and parents are the worse. Check out their FB page
Beautiful
Bonita beat an awesome Northview team (league champs) beat Claremont ( league champs) a third place San Dimas team and lost by one point to Monrovia (league champs). And they didn’t make the playoffs. Can you say Karma?
So torn on this playoff format. In one hand, good programs get to compete for a CIF championship that they would never win under the old rules. On the other hand, crappy teams get rewarded for being crappy and get to go to the playoffs due to the crappy system. On the third hand, really good football teams have have to watch teams they beat go to the playoffs. It’s a hot mess.
Maybe it’s time to congratulate these teams instead of labeling them as charity cases, losers, etc.. Granted there are some questionable choices, but remember that schools didn’t make up the rules of inclusion, they just play the games. It doesn’t matter what division their in because any way it’s done is going to create griping. With some of the complaining going on we should just put Mater Dei and St. John Bosco in the final and tell everybody else to go home. That being said I agree with FBFan that there are some really great matchups out there. Finally, let’s cheer on those kids that are playing in the only playoff game in their HS careers. The seniors who get one more game, parents who can be proud. It will make the effort they have put in meaningful to them as they go forward. Not every team can win a championship, but every team can participate like one. Good Luck!!!
@ Football fan
They played different divisions all year. La Habra who i believe is D6, Damien who would have been D4 and others most teams play different division schools all year.
@ MSG
Cant-do anything-well will get blown out. Book it
One thing that shows how much the CIF gods that give out the golden tickets care is……..Putting two teams to play each other after playing each other the day before. Selecting 1-9 teams to give a ticket to and leaving off teams like Bonita, Kaiser etc. all with winning records and outcomes that included multiple wins gainst top teams. Not much thought given after D1 and D2 selections.
WTF! Arroyo Div 12? WOW! Couldn’t even crack top 10?
Pioneer blew it by defeating Montclair ; if they would have lost that game , they would be in D14. They would roll through that woeful Division !
Btw how did both Rosemead and South El Monte both get in ??? 3-7 and tied for third in weakest MVL in history .
We need those teams in but not Bonita ??????
#fascination#tuffythetitan
Let’s get one thing straight: ANY TEAM that landed a playoff spot in a double-digit division is a charity case. They are all being stroked for participation and for CIF profits.
Only one team in Del Rio League benefits from open enrollment. Unfortunately their fan base/parents are the most entitled and obnoxious in the league.
Say what you will about the new system, but these are some REALLY good games. Too many for me to pick just a few.
Bishop Amat plays D1 all season Right? But gets to play D2 playoffs? How is that?
With 12 first half penalties last week (2 being unsportsmanlike), CO seems to have failed to clean things up. This could be a problem for them. So many big plays getting called back won’t cut it in post season.
Cantwell vs Covina should be an interesting matchup. Cantwell didn’t play the strongest of schedules but has a very strong core of players. Defense has been very strong all year.
Some teams do not belong. Horrible records
What is the fasination you people have with Pioneer? The coaches, coach their kids up,they play to the whistle no quite in these kids ,discilplined team. They get no transfers in. They used to be able to compete with likes of Ls ,cals Sf before open emrollment came in. Get your facts straight before coming on here and talking nonsense.Last time they in playoffs was the last year Juarez was head coach before being fired.
As for the matters of importance to Mid Valley Sports readers flip the divisions around and start with D14. I think D10 has plenty to offer. Rio Hondo Prep v Norwalk- Cantwell Sacred Heart v Covina- Muir v Tustin. All 1st round games are pick ems. D14 Bassett v So. El Monte- Gladstone v Lynwood. D13 Pioneer v Bishop Montgomery- Alhambra-San Gabriel( was not this game played last night?) D12 San Marino v Arroyo- Los Altos v San Bernardino. D11 Bell Gardens v Bellflower- Westminister v Schurr. There is one good game down in D3 Charter Oak v Yorba Linda but thats it for the lower divisions or as I like to call them the Transfer Portal Stations.
Somebody please explain this ridiculous playoff system/formula in layman’s language. My school got in but honestly probably shouldn’t have, on top of that they’re playing the same team they just played Friday 🤔
Once again CIF befuddles the masses with their pairings of teams that make no logical sense. Thank you CIF for another year of illogical year of pairings.
No team with a losing record should ever make the playoffs… that’s bs.
Looking at teams with positive power ratings, we have Warren (46.9) at Sierra Canyon (47.4)…..Palos Verdes (35.2) at La Serna (41.9)….Charter Oak (35.2) at Yorba Linda (42.4)….Downey (30.4) at Santa Barbara (30.8)….and La Habra (18.8) at Calabasas (22.3). These are the first-rounders that stand the best chance of being very competitive, played by teams that deserve to be in the postseason.
I want to know how does 5 teams in the Almont League make the playoffs, Bell Gardens, Schurr, Montebello, Alhambra and San Gabriel? You might as well let Keppel play for a CIF championship. Lol…
Wow! Long Beach Poly is in D1 and they have a Bye week. This is what happens when you win a CIF championship in D4 and you go 10-0. Welcome to the Mater Dei, St. John Bosco and Centennial’s of the World.
Trinity and Almont only leagues with 5 out of 6 teams taken. Lol
Pioneer going to the prom while Bonita and Danien stood up. I’m sure Bechtel wishes he would have payed more attention to the clock.
