ll cool j Diamond bar has become a very good club thanks to the new head coach. I give plenty credit to the head coach. Turning terrible into 10 and 1 is spectacular coaching. I seen them two times , and never observed any player even close to D1. They belong in the division they are in, and may win it all. Real good running back . Little quick kid . great cuttng ability.

    @HC’s only,

Damien- Looks like Bechtel is staying. Damien has gone through too many coaches within the last 10-15 years anyway. It’s good they have an alum.

Santa Fe- He deserves another year. 0-10, but they improved vastly from the year before and were in some close games with Burbank, Cal, and El Rancho. It takes a while to build a consistent program.

Whittier- I don’t think he is going anywhere. Has been there for a long time and seems respected by administration and coaching peers.

Bonita- If Bogan decides to step down then it has been a fantastic career for him. I would hope they look to the outside and don’t go with someone on the current staff. Too many backstabbers.

Glendora- One average year (I wouldn’t call making the playoffs bad) and you want him gone? You’re crazy.

    La Mirada- Again, you’re crazy.

I don’t know much about the Almont league coaches, but you mean to tell me Montebello would part ways with a coach who won as many league championships as their coach has?

The job with the most diamonds is the Corona Santiago one. A beautiful campus with some of the best facilities in the state of California and a supportive administration. It also doesn’t hurt that they have athletes and have recently been re-leagued so they don’t have to worry about competing with Centennial and Norco. I wonder if any SGV coaches will be their next guy. Morrison had SGV roots and landed there.

This playoff system pretty much sucks. it rewards
private schools and big name schools when they
have a down year. Last year LB Poly & St Francis
in D4, and Oaks Christian in D5 or 6 was a joke.

This year Notre Dame, Alemany, Loyola,
and St Francis all playing down in D5 is BS.

The bigger private schools should never
    be placed below D3.

How Rosemead has sunk to depths of D14 ?

When your only positive point is a victory over Silver Valley ? Wow …… wow
Good thing they didn’t have to play improving Bassett!

The structure stinks and those in control don’t care ; they like crummy teams winning CIF because this way everyone gets a chance (Loara
    D14 last year )
So great for the kids who win the raffle sure !

Bad for the quality of area football, because poor quality is rewarded with glory

But blogs are the only way to ventilate

The division you are in is defined by your performance this year and nothing else !
History of program, size of school etc This shouldn’t be that confusing

Division 12 the worst this year in terms of sub .500 squads , not automatic qualifiers it allowed in because “ there’s room in that Division”

Good luck to your squad . It is what it is lol

Every team had chance in D 14 , it’s the self CIF defined bottom of the barrel
True measure of accomplishment is what division you are placed in
    Playoffs randomized lotto system now

Totally agree however it was the school that denied the transfers that Spathia try taken to El Monte and those kids playing again for Bassett that made the team better if not it would have been a rough season. Bassett winning is a good thing maybe it can change the reputation of the program and will have the kids is the area stay versus transfer to other schools to play football.

Oh the humanity!!! Get Back Coach complaining that another school should be placed in a better division is downright hilarious. What happened to “we only play who’s in front of us?” Los Altos can use your same line. They only play who’s in front of them. They are not the same Los Altos. Get over it. Y’all probably gonna win anyway then we’ll have to hear you say beat a better team. Just worry about the sidelines bro.

HC’s only? What type of ‘carousel’? Are you predicting that many, and more , local head varsity football coaches will resign / or asked to leave? What is the basis for this very ‘extreme’ prediction? Really? I do not pay that much attention to head football coaches coming and going for various reasons, but I suggest you are very incorrect. Exemplary of incorrect is Whittier High School , and many other schools Administrators /Principals actually do not place their football program even close to high in priority list. You think La Mirada is going to fire Coach Muscheti ,? He a few years ago turned an annual second or third place program into Winning California State Championship. Funny guy. 100 % Santa Fe definitely needs new head coach. I know Mahlsted was great, but if administration spend little time ( go hunting, or open up to outside the school) a good coach will appear. BUT when Principals , exemplary are Whittier and Santa Fe, do not consider sports/ schools athletic program very important , the coach stays as school focuses on state test scores. Why don’t plenty of Principals consider football program very important? Because they never played a sport , or competed in their lives. Or maybe third grade. If we study many high schools with good, very good , or great athletics we usually realize ‘THE MAN/WOMAN RUNNING THE SCHOOL LOVES SPORTS! He / she learned that student athletes may just learn more life skills in athletics than in class. Many do not care, and if they did = why never a change

LOL HaHa ‘Fridayknights’ ? Worst program in history? They won league last year , yet again terrible defense lost in first round. More ignorance is the ‘fact’ that Basset started terribly, but very good ( I believe , not know) , and very experienced Head Coach ( and staff? ) who has head coached before at couple very decent schools in very, very competitive leagues. He , also , has assisted at Charter Oak ( 90% sure) , and few other pretty good programs. I do not visit this blog often, but playoff time is fun. one example of ‘fun’ is I did not see even one (ONE) person who gave Basset a chance after Spathias left! But I saw tens of ‘know it alls’ who predicted they will be terrible ; maybe not even field a team. I ( who cares ) am pulling for them

Maybe they’re not but under zero circumstances should Los Altos be in any division below say 7-8 when they are a school that could go as high as 2-3

What’s with dude from Diamond Bar crying about he has D1 players? They play no one and BP beat them handily. DB should sit down and be happy they are playing in a weak D9 div. DB has no D1 talent just saying.

    Maverick,

You’re correct this is not like the LA Playoff teams of the past, but they were 2nd in the Valle Vista, hence the playoff birth. NV won league outright, and LA, SD & DR tied for 2nd, LA won the coin flip for the automatic playoff birth.

You don’t like the 4 team leagues, go tell the area principles. You don’t like the competitive equity model, take a trip to Los Alamitos and let CIF know about it. But it’s not Los Altos’ fault, the kids & staff certainly don’t deserve your ire.

Kudos to the kids for playing the games that are in front of them and not packing it in when the season looked bleak.

Los Altos is 4-7 and was 4th in the Valle Vista League, they won 3 games in the season and made the playoffs? The conqueror’s are not the team of a few years ago. Prediction 24-17 Arroyo

I always look forward to the coaching carousel in the MVS coverage area that should start up soon. My guess is Damien, Santa Fe,Whittier, Bonita,Glendora, La Mirada all Almont League coaches except Bell Gardens are places to watch. Any rumors appreciated. I predict the first resignation will be in the next week if it hasn’t already happened.

Two great coaches will go head-to-head in Hacienda Heights this Friday, as the Arroyo Knights travel to Los Altos. Chuck Leonardis and crew have been pitching shutouts with regularity, while Dale Ziola knows how to play postseason football. It looks great.

    Los Altos in D12 hmmm
No matter tho we play whoever they put in front of us.
Rosemead represents MVL with a victory
El Monte apparently left their defense at home
SEM what a colossal flop of epic proportions. Gifted a high seed in a low division and you lose to Bassett. Worst loss in program history
