Atascadero and San Gabriel will both be playing in their first ever state game. Both have high powered offenses that use their quarterback and running back extensively. Fun fact both teams use quarterback and running back brothers.
Key difference will be:
– defense for Atascadero, and the ability to stop the SG offense.
– special teams for SG, can they recover enough onside kicks to keep the ball away from Atascadero’s punishing offense
High school stadiums in Texas seat 30,000 and are sold out for the next 10 years.
The new system is a joke. Muir and SG are 3rd and 4th place teams.
These kids are playing their hearts out and can only play who’s in front of them.
Thread is done. No need for anyone else to comment.
I remember a few years ago when El Monte won the state title, they played in a down pour and a mud bowl. This Saturday’s forecast in Atascadero, CA. is 72% chance of rain with a high of 56 degrees. OUCH! I hope the new regime at CIF will think out of the box and try to get these championship games into a neutral site with better weather and an experience that the players would remember for the rest of their lives. SoFi Stadium, the Rose Bowl, and the Coliseum all had youth and high school football games played on their fields this season. Just throwing that out there.
Make history guys…and be safe.
