  1. USC lost to Utah 47-24 Friday night in Las Vegas in the Pac-12 Conference Championship game. USC will play Tulane in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day. 
  2. Final College Football Playoff Rankings: 1. Georgia 2. Michigan 3. TCU 4. Ohio St.  
  3. Georgia will face Ohio St. in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl and Michigan will face TCU in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on December 31. 
  4. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo broke his left ankle Sunday in a win over the Miami Dolphins and is out for the year.  
  5. Deion Sanders was named the new head football coach at Colorado. 
  6. The Texas Rangers signed former New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom to a five-year, $185 million deal. 
  7. Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson completed 12 of 22 passes for 131 yards Sunday in a 27-14 win over the Houston Texans. Watson returned from an 11 game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy by committing sexual assault. 
  8. The Rams lost to the Seattle Seahawks 27-23 Sunday to fall to 3-9 on the season. The Chargers lost to the Las Vegas Raiders 27-20 to fall to 6-6.  
  9. San Gabriel running back Robert Lucero. 
  10. USC is ranked 10th in the final College Football Playoff rankings. UCLA is 18th.

    I know this is only Riley’s first year, and we’re expected to be mighty grateful for progress made, but I can guarantee that this pattern of getting stymied on the cusp of greatness will persist so long as his defenses remain porous.
