@ NWO: Keppel’s new head coach, Robert Gonzales, got off to a very late start last year. That was a big disadvantage for him, on top of the school’s tradition of being a perennial loser in football.
Keppel’s 2022 football staff appeared to be almost entirely new, from top to bottom, so perhaps the school administration has committed itself to making one final push to turn the program around.
That’s my perspective as an interested outside observer.
Yes he was and he resigned yesterday because he has been chosen as the new head football coach at Santa Fe High School.
Not a Keppel fan at all, but it would be nice to see administration go out on a limb and give this struggling program a shot in the arm or just call it a day on Aztec football.
@ Whitmont Guy: I’d say the whole Santa Fe program has been BORED approved, because zero wins is definitely boring.
wasn’t he the baseball coach at sunny hills?
Tim he has mislead you! He has not been bored approved but he has been chosen, he has stepped down at Sunny Hills. When it’s all said and done Tim remember you heard it from me first!
Wow…Bateman is 0-9 at awful Wilson, without finishing the season, and that’s what has fired the imagination of the SF brain trust? I can only believe that SF has a bet with Keppel to see which program folds first.
Ryan Bateman is the new head football coach at Santa Fe High School. Spent one year at Monrovia, one year at Cal, and one year at Sunny Hills. Believe he was the head coach at HH Wilson for one year where he went 0-9 and did not finish the season.
From T. Peterson: Spoke to him tonight. He has not been hired as the Santa Fe head coach. The search continues.
With Peterson’s revelation that the mystery quitter is not coming to Santa Fe, word is that Jack Mahlstede is turning in his grave at a dangerously high rpm, and will continue as such until his old program is in the hands of semi-competent administrators. How would it serve the old man’s legacy to have his once-proud program dropped into the bottomless pit of 11-man football, aka the 605 conference?
@Red Alert,
Win some games for a few years at the expense of players being discriminated against. Shame on Santa Fe admin for not doing their research. Or even worse, shame on them for knowing and STILL hiring him.
Santa Fe would be better of hiring that 10 year old asst. HC from last season.
Santa Fe needs to be extremely careful with this guy, because if not, they just might win some games, and we can’t have that.
I’ve heard the new coach plans to hang it up exactly one second before the Chiefs start their run onto the field for next season’s opener. The CIF commissioner will be in attendance and honor him on the spot for most consecutive quits and most outrageous quit. That’s it for my comment….I quit.
Let me guess the coach that was at a school in Garden Grove, im not the biggest Santa Fe fan but the guy is a snake that will try to use Santa Fe to land a bigger better position somewhere, Santa Fe should be careful
@His coach,
Santa Fe’s next coach is A former DRL coach who won a league championship and then left for his next job just before the summer started. He then went to coach at an OC school only to resign just before the 2022 season started under lots of suspicion.
From T. Peterson. I talked to him. He interviewed but turned it down. Santa Fe still looking.
@anonymous…don’t keep it to yourself….what have u heard?….what do u know?…..throw it out to the universe
Santa Fe could pick a guy off skid row to coach next year, saying his vomit looked better than the other guys’ upchuck…and the bum STILL couldn’t do any worse than the last two selections. Which is to say, it’s not worth having a heart attack over this hire.
Santa Fe HS about to make a big mistake by hiring a coach who quit on his previous 2 teams right before the season started.
It’s like LIV golf.
Pretty sure you can usb the game with a mix of MattV talking out of his arse and all the fake offers he provides.
If you DJ the SGV bowl for free, 20 of your friends and family members can be honorary coaches on the sideline of your choice. It’s going to be like the superbowl, sponsored by Barnum and Bailey.
