(Santa Fe Springs) – Ryan Bateman has been named the new head football coach at Santa Fe he confirmed Tuesday.
Bateman, a Santa Fe alum, coached previously at Sunny Hills where he was an assistant and was also the head coach of the varsity baseball team.
Bateman takes over for Carl Agnew who was out after two seasons. The Chiefs went 0-10 last year and are 1-19 over the last two years.
“All of the support surrounding the program has been amazing. I feel that the community is excited for this new chapter and I couldn’t be more humbled to be selected as their new head coach,” Bateman said.
“The city of Santa Fe Springs is truly a family and as someone who grew up in this community, I’m committed to enriching the lives of our next generation of student athletes,” he added.
Answer these 2 questions, Does the middle linebacker live in friendly hills? Does he live in the Santa Fe attendance area?
if you think LS is homegrown
La Serna will not be effected one bit. there homegrown talent pool wouldnt take one step into
Santa Fe program. To compete for 5th place in league,
I think Clay Helton should be enshrined as the greatest SC coach of all time because of his loyalty. Hey, I hear Brett Maher, the great Dallas placekicker, is going to sign an extension because, despite those four consecutive missed PATS, the team digs his loyalty.
Where’s Vinny now?
Lopez claimed Pacifica was his “Dream Job” when he got. It has turned into a nightmare because his word is not worth much.
vinnie lopez – dangerously good coach, but zero loyalty
bateman – alumni hires always give you more loyalty , almost always. Look at El Rancho with Medrano, He could go get a payday anywhere else and have tons of talent year in year out but he still decides to be underpaid at El Rancho. That is loyalty.
IMO bateman is a good hire and hopefully SF does begin to turn things around, being a baseball coach also maybe he can get some to play football, or other sports. SF has talent galore in that school. You need to just find a way to channel it to your program.
SP, LS, Downey, Norwalk – will be impacted by SF success if they can keep kids home
Heard Vinny Lopez from El Rancho was the other finalist. Hahaha. What happened to SF??
605 League here we come!
Do not be shocked to see key players are on the way out, stay tuned
The higher-ups at Santa Fe have revealed their desperation with this hire. Bateman’s previous sporting adventures have all ended badly, so the only crumb of hope that can be found in this move is that the man is an alum. Most likely, Bateman has agreed to do this as a walk-on, since the teaching positions have all been taken by the previous failed coaches. If a private business were run this way, it would have gone under a long time ago.
Anonymous is at it again, and in typical fashion! LS on last drops of gas? you are half the time making comments that are opposite of truth
SP was just in the finals in 2019 weren’t they?
St Paul hasn’t been a factor in over a decade. They belong in a league with cantwell.
st.paul ?
nobody wants to go to sp , pioneer kids are refusing sp
you guys got to much attention on PR DONNAS and look what the result is
all the kids from Santa Fe are going to La Serna? lol I guess St. Paul has nothing to do with it but alright.
This will probably end up great for Santa Fe and Bateman. If they schedule Firebaugh, Keppel and the like and get to 2-8 and get into D16 they can make a huge run into state and Bateman can be the MIDS coach of the year in 2023. The new normal in CIF is “Failure is Good”.
Rebuilding Santa Fe will have its difficulties, LS having open district is one obstacle, for those saying LS is home grown, sorry but the Middle LB should be at Santa Fe, Norwalk is starting to rebound, Downey is strong, the ranch is strong, back in the 2000’s Santa Fe would get tons of Whittier kids, all the Norwalk kids, a handful from Pico and most importantly they would go down that 105 and bring the chicken and waffles if you Catch my drift. Not sure if they are looking to build from the ground or trying to go and do it the Jack way, time will tell.
Santa Fe is losing kids to Norwalk and Downey! They will continue to lose kids to Norwalk and Downey with this hire. I wouldn’t worry about catching La Serna, Santa Fe needs to worry about winning one game at a time.
Reports are that Santa Fe footbll players are fleeing to Norwalk and La Serna.
LOL,
so much negativity, lets wait and see what staff he puts together at least. Ive heard plenty of people excited about this hire. Ill say this, if SF can put it together and keep its kids home, LS reign is on its last drops of gas. So many kids from SF starting on LS its a JOKE.
Ryan is an outstanding dude and excellent coach. Congratulations Coach Bateman
Anonymous talked and talked like he knew the next coach at Santa Fe. Yet he knows so little
Technically, this is a step up. Considering his record as a HC is 0-9 after being fired week 10, SFHS and the administration has taken a step in the right direction.
Kudos to you for having inside sources at every job hes been at lol
I applaud the hiring of a man who will not upset the apple cart in Santa Fe Springs. The community has become entirely comfortable with losing often and losing big, so this is the right choice.
Sunny Hills Head Baseball coach and Asst. Football coach – 1 year
Monrovia OLine coach – 1 year
Cal Football Asst. coach – 1 year
Cal Asst. Baseball coach – 1 year

All of this after 2015 and he was let go or asked not to return from all of them!
Great hire Santa Fe!
