Bateman doesn’t have “a couple seasons” to go at Santa Fe. The guy will be yanked at the end of this season, if not in the middle of the schedule. He is the Joe Biden of high school coaches.

Santa fe we shall see what the new staff is putting together I’ll give it a couple seasons. La Serna is la Serna.Cal is putting it together they’ll surprise a lot of the area’s critics. Lot of young talent…. Let’s not write them off yet ! That team on the other side of the 605…
Based on the thread your checks better cash !

I very much agree…Instead of looking at the water girls, maybe the Cal coaches should add some new plays because their offensive system is horrendous. The OC has no idea what he is doing, I don’t even want to look at the defense either. If Cal High wants to build a good program, then they must fire their horrible coaching staff.

SP wont do anything special unless they get a big time recruit from trinity, that is always how mike wins.

calHi problem is ” entitled parents and kids ” , if you dont win they turn their back on you. ZERO LOYALTY

ER – TOO MUCH LOYALTY : gotta love your enthusiasm but there is no takeov(ER) happening soon. You guys are still athletically overmatched by LS and look very undisciplined. You are still LS’s PET.

    Whittier is M.I.A.
    Santa Fe – OverHyped

Del Rio League : LS beats everyone by 3TD plus. You guys keep wishing LS is going down hill , wait till you see some of the freshman we have coming in.

@ Talent Drain, so you admit without recruiting Moschetti is a lackluster coach. I’m fairly
sure La Serna coaches are not sweating to much about losing their talent to ST Paul.

Cal showed up for a 4-Way at San Dimas on Thursday and played San Dimas pretty good, if it were a game it would’ve been a damn good game. They looked young but the kids had some fight to them.

Adding salt to the wound of the Del Rio’s woes is the recent arrival of recruiting maestro Mike Moschetti. I believe La Mirada told this man to reign-in his high octane recruiting, which explains his lackluster performance on the second coaching stint. At St Paul, recruiting isn’t just encouraged, it’s mandatory, which bodes poorly for the prospects of public schools in the SF/Pico/Whittier area. Mike is going to go after anything that is big, fast and athletic, to the detriment of most Del Rio squads.

In tact? How in tact are they when half their team left or would rather quit than to play for them? That whole staff needs major adjustments starting with how they treat their players, ask the players who were threatened about leaving. Instead of focusing on their water girls they need to re-evaluate themselves as coaches.

All this talk about Cal, I saw them at El Rancho and they will be young but it will be the same as it had been the last three years, whoever wins between them and El Rancho will be 2nd place. My guess this early summer:
    1. La Serna
    2. Cal
    3. El Rancho
    4. Santa Fe
    5. Whittier

Cal high is the laughing stock of the de rio league. Horrible stubborn coaches and even worse play calling. They thought they were ready for the big boy’s scheduling Downey but they had a rude awakening. To top it off their best coach steps down because the head coach and oc can’t take the blame. They lost their spark after 2021. PATHETIC PROGRAM!

I would have to say hell of a job to the coaches at Cal (joke) high for becoming the new laughing stock for the Del rio league in less than 3 years the senior and junior class looked like they had more talent than the team before that made it to the playoffs too bad the coaches are horrible and let their players down hopefully in the next years cal high will fire that whole coaching staff and rebuild

  15. June 13, 2023 - 10:22 pm | Permalink

Cal looked pretty horrible this tournament I guess the glory years are over. Especially since half the team quit on them. There must have been some major issues within the program. La Serna look pretty bad compared to the other years. Their new transfer from cal had a really great season last year hopefully La Serna utilizes him. But their Qb situation is just as bad as Cal high.

Schurr QB looking real solid. Very smooth release and has very good accuracy and decision making. It’s pretty sad that grown men sit on their couches eating cheeto puffs while talking negative about high school athletes. I’m really digging that new transfer from La Serna. Led the del rio league in picks, should be very solid while on the field. Cal high is just a laughing stock. I would put my money on an 8th grade football team to beat them. Coaching staff is terrible as well.

Is it by committee? I smell Trouble on the HILL…. 3-7 season coming in HOT

Idk if I’m ready to call for the demise of la Serna just yet, they are still the team to beat in the DRL by far.

ER did have a handful of kids out might’ve gotten the offense going a bit more with those kids there. The offense did look a bit stagnant and lots of dumps underneath, our OL will be a strong point though. Cal did look extremely young and small.

you come with respect you get respect. I am not surprised to hear all these positive comments on how the Tournament was ran. Medrano is a great leader and should be proud his coaches and players conducted themselves in a professional manner. GREAT JOB BOOMER! teaching these young men right.

as for the other team in burgundy, looks like you have taken a HUGE drop from recent years. ESPECIALLY in the QB situation , but I saw your freshman QB and those two WRs, must be good if Andy brought them early to watch and learn. Overall take away Northrup and Owen : your nothing short of PIONEER. Good Luck this season with that schedule you mustard, I think your one or maybe two years late on the team that can actually compete.

Cal, Schurr, Montebello, BG, Covina , ER – Not impressed at all.

Cal – almost looked like a youth team. QB needs to leave with the rest who bailed ship
Schurr – OVERHYPED : keep posting social media
Montebello : Pete……. smh…. pete…. well you did what you can with what you got.
BG – Aggressive Defense , better stick to the run… but you got no silva this year

Covina and ER : biggest disappointment
covina – how can you be so bad with your QB having so much experience
ER : you better have a good running back, all those throws underneath are going to get you ZERO yards.

    Lucky SF didn’t show up

This was a no losers tournament. Most teams just trying to prepare and condition. TD’s were nice but not really the entire focus. It was pattern running and completions no matter how short. Win Win for all teams.

I got to see a lot of early morning action and concur about the organization and quality of the tournament. One note : a lot of parents /coaches didn’t realize that Salazar was a totally different school a couple blocks away and ended up scrambling to get there , repark etc

San Dimas looked good in one pool……and I have to take back my previous post about San Gabriel. They are lucky they have Keppel
On schedule , might be their only win. Not sure if shock of Kevin leaving produced the disarray but lots of issues apparent

Great job Ranch, the kids who assisted were friendly and professional ; the refs kept play and sportsmanship together.

These your Amy are good to see how the kids respond to adversity and success but let’s not get confused, La Serna won this tournament last year and lost in the 1st Round and Cal won this tournament 2 years ago and lost in the Quarterfinals. Success in the summer passing circuit does not equal success in November.

Diamond Ranch – very solid with a few studs that can dominate, the dude with the orange cleats was a monster.

Culver City – last year they came to this tournament and looked decent, this year they look like they are back to their old ways, CC will be a problem.

La Serna – 2 really big wide receivers who can catch anything, felt they were a bit underwhelming at times especially when facing equal talent from Roosevelt.

Northview, San Dimas both solid, respectively both programs will just keep chugging along.

Schurr – heard all kinds of stuff about them being a monster then watched them get taken to the woodshed by a very bad la Canada team, people need to pump the breaks a bit.

    Cal High
QB has a good arm and size, but the rest of the team looks extremely young. Could be a rebuild year for cal.

    El Rancho
QB is lanky and looks to have a good arm, huge tight end that moves well, #4 at WR n DB looked real good.

Most team were small especially in the secondary. Many teams lacked fire and were more interested in playing tag on the sidelines than encouraging team mates. Lack of conditioning was clear with players complaining of being tired and thirsty. Many heavily favored teams went home early. The age of the prima donnas.
