I’m going to double-down here, Coach Thomas, I argue, had among the best chances to revitalize a local power like Amat in the (for better or worse) ‘modern game’; proven track-record and all. Wonder if McCutcheon will factor here (not knowledgeable on the current relationship between the two) in any capacity, staff or not. Raul Lara is yet another example of a coach hired on that also isn’t an alum of the parochial program whose integrity (I use that lightly, yet in result-laden terms) he was brought on to preserve.

sick and tired of these schools hiring unqualified people with no real coaching experience. and then they wonder why they suck. how about giving a chance experienced assistants who have actually coached high level football?

just because you went somewhere doesn’t mean you can coach.

Gots to love the loyalty towards alums at Amat. Good Job Amat’s hiring team. Atheletic Directors take note and see how fast a 2-8 with no CIF appearance will turn around just because they care. Question for all area schools does your school have alum coaches, and if you had the chance would you hire an alum why or why not?

This hire is a bit of a head scratcher to me . His stint at St Magarets in OC started very well , but didn’t end well . They made run in D6 his first year with some good talent ; they gradually declined to D11 team 5-7 , negative CPR in his last year 2022 . The year they made it to title game they were D9 in 2021 .
Margaret’s had been OC powerhouse for couple decades before he got there. I heard that kids stoped going out for football at Margaret’s , but they are still trying to recover even with hiring of long time successful CDM coach .

It seems like no brainer, alum , NFL pedigree . But doesn’t always work out that way…..
