Joshua Knight has stepped down as the head football coach at Don Lugo after two seasons he announced Tuesday. The reason for the resignation is that Knight and his family are moving to Texas to begin a new journey.
Don Lugo was 10-13 overall during Knight’s two-year tenure and 1-2 in the playoffs. The Conquistadores went to the post season both years and also won league titles in each of the two years. in 2023 Don Lugo won the San Antonio League with a 3-0 record and went 5-7 overall. The Conquistadores beat Santa Paula in the first round of the Division 12 playoffs before falling to Coachella Valley in the second round.
In 2024 they again won a league championship going 3-0 in the newly formed Gano League and complied a record of 5-6 overall. They lost in the first round to eventual Division 11 Champion Portola 31-20.
Knight is embarking on a new adventure in a new state but he hasn’t ruled out coaching. “I just want to coach football and hopefully coordinate the offense at some point,” Knight said.
“Thank you Don Lugo HS, my great coaching staff, CVUSD and the Chino Community for the opportunity to be the HC at Don Lugo the last two seasons. We have improved the program and have changed the culture. I’m excited for the next chapter with my family as we journey to Texas,” Knight posted on Twitter (X).
Don Lugo will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.
Well, at least he wasn’t pacing up and down the sidelines making childish insults at the offensive coordinator, or spreading rumors about staff members. Shoot, this is Don Lugo, not Baldwin Park.
So if you add Knight’s record as Baldwin Park’s head coach, his overall record as a head coach was 11-22. Guess it’s harder to be a head coach than an athletic director.
This is the time of year when we hear about guys stepping down. How about some discussion on coaches who have plans to step UP their operation, to make real strides in their program? Anyone have some good news?
two seasons too late. bye felicia.
Rumor I have heard is Downey HC is stepping down. Anyone else hear that?
One of my favorite times of the year. Following all the hundred or so coaching changes. We are up to 38 already. Any juicy rumors anyone?
Got excited when I read “Knight steps down”. Thought the story was going to be Knight coach steps down
Josh, hope getting a Texas teaching credential isn’t a big hassle. Enjoy your new chapter.
