Old School Mid Valley Top 12

El Monte Lion HC Joel Sanchez

How should we break this down? In this dozen you have the good, the bad, and the ugly. Over the course of the last ten seasons 10 of these teams have owned the top spot, while five have been in the cellar. The Knights and Mats open what is expected to be strong seasons Friday night. While the Lions and Rams scrimmage. It’s the Old School, our version of the Ivy League. No further admittance, no way to escape.

1.) Monrovia: Ryan Maddox the best HC hire of the last half decade?

2.) Arroyo: If Steven Rivera threw with right arm as well as his left, he’d fall into a higher tax bracket.

3.) San Gabriel: Everyone is leaning Muir on Friday night… but what if?

4.) Arcadia: Myles Carr and Taylor Lagace…The next Garay to Acosta? The next Salmon to Leon?

5.) Rosemead: Matt Eddy becomes a household name in 2010.

6.) El Monte: When this team gets off to a fast start everyone is going to be saying; “Oh, I’ve always been a Lions fan”.

7.) Temple City: Are good feelings vibing out of this place some sort of harmonic convergence…or has Mike McFarland and his staff done an excellent job this summer?

8.) Alhambra: Sweet Lou & The Moors will get to grinding against El Cid and Roosevelt this Friday. Playoffs? No. Surprise team? Yes.

9.) Mt. View: Ready to get round and fat on its non league schedule. How long does it take to perfect the double-wing?

10.) South El Monte: Don’t doubt the South…but this road won’t be easy.

11.) Duarte: Falcons win two in 2010.

12.) Gabrielino: Look at it this way…there is no place to go but up. The staff knows football like a mechanic knows cars…but you still have to have all the parts.

Heard today (unconfirmed) that TC put my man Luis Lopez at fullback. If this is true, it’s good news for Simongunsong and Mota.
Lopez and Basette are both capable of squatting a small automobile.
Well – the MVN countdown is nearly upon us – see ya at the scrimmage. Can’t wait for some collisions – you know ElMo will bring the contact. I hope McFarland sets the tone on toughness – we need to get back to the “beat your man” attitude. The rest falls in place.

it must be harmonic convergence or mass hyptnotism…because I am getting sleeeeepy…sleeeepy …and starting to believe.
The reality is we are young and real short on under the lights experience and starting a youngster under center with a no name line in front of him. Most anywhere that spells a big ??????? at the least.
Good news is I hear 6 power is back in the playbook and McFarland has made clear he at least takes his hat off to old TC traditions rather than burying them under a big pile of Spread rubble or a load of zone blocking debris.
