A Giant Sized Win, 31-12

Terriantate Francis had a giant game with 192 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns

(Montclair)- Terriantate Francis ran for 192 yards and two touchdowns to lead Ganesha to a 31-12 rout of Montclair Thursday night to kick off the 2010 football season.

Francis busted off touchdown runs of 54 and 49 yards in the second quarter as the Giants opened up a 24-0 half time bulge.

“He’s just so much faster than everybody else,” said Ganesha Coach Dave Fleming of Francis. “He’s just such a great athlete. Last year he broke his hand against Montclair and didn’t come back until week six. He’s the best athlete on the team. If he can stay healthy, he makes a huge difference.”

Montclair struggled offensively and was shut out for nearly three quarters. The Cavaliers finally got on the board with 2:58 left in the third on a 17 yard run by Manuel Chagolia.

The Giants scored on their first possession. They drove 65 yards in seven plays. Julian Reyes went over from one yard out for a 7-0 lead. The TD was set up by a 55 yard run by Andy Baeza.

Ganesha was stopped on its next series but was right back at it on the following possession. On the second play of the series, Francis got loose on the far corner and broke it down the sideline for a 54 yard scoring romp.

The Cavaliers came charging out of the gate but were derailed quickly

After Montclair was stopped on fourth down on the Ganesha 38, Francis did his thing again. This time he raced through the Cavalier secondary darting 49 yards for another score.

Reyes picked off Montclair quarterback David Tafolla and brought it back deep into Montclair territory to set up a 22 yard field goal by Jesse Soto just before the half to give the Giants a 24-0 led at the break.

A little trickery in the third quarter lit up the scoreboard again. Baeza took a handoff, pulled up and threw a pass to Daniel Arevalo who bulled into the end zone for a 37 yard touchdown. It was 31-0 and lo and behold Ganesha, coming off a one win season, already had its first victory of the year.

Montclair scored late in the fourth on a 37 yard run by Rudy Aguilar. Aguilar rushed for 67 yards to lead the Cavalier attack but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Ganesha had over 300 yards rushing. Baeza had 63 yards and Reyes rushed for 50 yards to compliment Francis.

“I’m so proud of these kids. You know it’s hard not to quit some times when people always say ‘Oh Ganesha, they stink, I would never want to play there,” Fleming said. “I mean people would literally drive by the practice field and yell Ganesha (stinks). But these kids never quit. They have worked hard.”

Ganesha has a bye next week while Montclair travels to Pomona.
