@ Sports Man: To clarify things a little further, I’m an MVS contributor during the high school football season, but otherwise I’m a frequent commenter like you and probably dozens of others.
Tim and his crew have kindly allowed me to submit my stories on Alhambra High football for several years now. I hope to be back for another season!
@ Sports Man: You’re welcome. I agree with you entirely about CIF, and we have a lot of common ground on the other things you mentioned. To me, it’s about recognizing the humanity of other people, having empathy, and treating others the way we’d like to be treated.
The merits, or the lack thereof, concerning various policies can be debated, but I wanted to stress the importance of using a term such as “woke” in its proper historical context. Take care, sir, and continue the fight for a form of competitive equity that makes sense.

Ron Vrooman! I very very much appreciate your reply ! Thank you Ron! But we do have some, not a lot, of difference with the meaning of Woke, even though I still don’t have a clear definition of it. I respect your commentary and giving people (coaches, parents, friends, etc.) the chance to be part of this blog. I am Independent politically after voting moderate dem very dedicatedly, so I am not one of the radical right people who go overboard. i love all people except those who want all Americans dead! My family has friends from all ethnic groups and I played with several Black players during my career. I agree with you (if I interpreted one of your thoughts correctly) that this country’s Black poor and needy communities/ children are being cheated. I hope you allowed my last commentary based on what I truly believe (please erase “Woke ‘ statement) if factual . I will just highlight , again, SEM destroyed MV Baseball 23 to 1 in league! I stand by my evaluation on the unfairness created this CIF season
@ Sports Man: With all due respect, this has nothing to do with being “woke.” I consider CIF’s playoff division setup, particularly at the lower end, to be a misguided attempt to get more teams in and perhaps make some additional money. The caliber of competition is no longer the top priority for that body.
The term “woke” has been so broadly misapplied in recent years that it has become almost unrecognizable. It originated with the African American struggle for civil rights, and it meant being aware of history, particularly where it related to past and ongoing injustices. To be “woke” is to be awake to what’s going on around you so you can put yourself in a position to do something about it.
The term means nothing more and nothing less.
