VC Crushes Fillmore

Amjed? No, AmJET Aboul-hosn: 293 yards & 4Tds

(Glendale)- Amjed Aboul-hosn rushed 293 yards and four touchdowns to lead Village Christian to a 41-21 victory over Fillmore on Saturday night at Moyse Stadium.

Aboul-hosn scored on runs of 57, 57, 78, and 9-yards as the Crusaders built an early 14-0 lead before taking full control in the second half.

“Amjed is just getting better and better,” said VC Head Coach Jay Schroeder. “But our offensive line did a great job tonight in getting him to the second level, beyond the line of scrimmage.”

Three plays in Aboul-hosn went 57-yards for a touchdown.

Fillmore quickly went three and out.

Getting the ball back on its own 45 Village Christian used a 24-yard run by Abou-hosn and plays later quarterback Cayden Boyd went 28-yards to tight end Matt Shashaty.

Now down 14-0 the Flashes responded with an 8-play 65 yard drive that was topped by Collin Farrar’s 21-yard run to make it 14-7.

From here the Fillmore defense shut down the Crusaders on their next four possessions. Jay Schroeder’s offense did not score, ran just 20-plays, gave up 7-sacks, and turned the ball over on downs twice.

At the break Schroeder told his team not to take a playoff.

They didn’t.

On VC’s third play from scrimmage in the third quarter Aboul-hosn went 57-yards for his second touchdown.

One play after the Flashes surrendered the ball on a punt, Aboul-hosn went 78-yards to paydirt and it was a 28-7 contest.

Using misdirection and double hand-offs Fillmore pieced together a 50 yard drive that Daniel Cruz highlighted with his 35-yard scoring run.

Aboul-hosn scored his fourth touchdown two minutes later on a 9-yard run to make it 24-14.

Early in the fourth quarter Village Christian was rotating personnel which led to a bad punt and the Flashes taking over at the Crusader 29. With eight minutes to play southpaw quarterback Robert Bonilla went 29-yards over the top to Mario Hernandez for Fillmore’s third score.

If the Flashes were dreaming about a comeback VC crushed them by taking five minutes off the clock and blasting Aboul-hosn with consistent gains. By the time the ball arrived at Fillmore 11 everyone was thinking Aboul-hosn but the ball went to fullback Garrett Van who carried half the defense with him into the end zone for the game’s final score.

“This win says a lot about our kids,” said Schroeder in reference to last week’s comeback against La Salle and the final four possessions in the first half where his team gave up seven sacks. “They just don’t give up. I’m proud of them.”
