Good Afternoon!

Gotta love Thursday night football…

…The only thing better would be Saturday morning football at 10:30 A.M…. Every school should play at least one of these.

The El Monte City Council recently motioned-then seconded that any touchdown scored by a school belonging to the El Monte Union High School District, north of Lower Azusa, be called a: “Rivera”.

First Add Jose Garay: Between 2006-2008 South El Monte quarterback Jose Garay accounted for nine touchdowns against Arroyo.

If NBA Commissioner Donald Stern is a plantation owner, then sign me up for the plantation…That’s why its Bryant and not Bright Gumbel.

Whittier Christian under HC Sergio Gradilla has never lost to Maranatha.

For the record Gradilla is 22-11 since taking over the Heralds program in 2009. This includes two semifinals appearances, and one title game.

I love C-Town, but my insides tell me to go with San Dimas over the Colts.

Did you know that Bryant Gumbel once called a Duarte-Temple City football game for KNBC? True. And if you can tell me the year not only will you get a warm smile but a handshake to go with it.

Tell me who Gumbel’s color commentator was and we’ll do a free ad for your product on “The Mid Valley Sports Show” next Tuesday night.

“Joe, why do you keep honking for Zander Anding? I haven’t seen any of his stats. How do we know he is any good?” —Regular MVS Critic

Well, right here, in my formerly fun size Snickers stained hands I have the statistics for Burroughs running back Zander Anding.

Rushing Yards: 1,515

Rushing TDs: 16

Last Three Games:

Vs. Pasadena: 18-320 yards

Vs. Arcadia: 32-318 yards

Vs. Glendale: 22-393 yards (6Tds, 5 rush, 1 rec)

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Last Add Anding: Rick Neuheisel recently asked him to a UCLA game. I’m sure they’re going just as friends.

South El Monte is much improved…and very dangerous, but I like Arroyo by two Riveras tonight.

Last Add Gradilla: Whittier Christian is 3-1 against Maranatha since the turn of the century.

Arroyo has outscored South 86-0 in the last two meetings between the schools. The Southmen’s last win in the series came on November 7th, 2008 when Jose Garay went 18 of 27 for 319 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns, including the game winner on a keeper he took down the sideline late in the fourth quarter. Final: Eagles 35 Knights 32.

“What you saw was difference between a three year starter (Garay) and a bunch of guys still learning how to play varsity football,” said Arroyo HC Jim Singiser.

Last South El Monte: The Eagles 2008 victory was the fourth straight over the Knights. The first coming in 2005 when Lee Aguirre was under center. No other school in the Mission Valley League has every won four straight against Arroyo.

The Oakland Raiders traded for Carson Palmer, but maybe they should have given consideration to La Serna quarterback Frankie Palmer. The sophomore has completed nearly 60% of his passes and has thrown 7 touchdown passes to just 4 picks.

Keep an eye on this kid.

Whittier Christian-Maranatha? Heralds are good, but the Minutemen are better.

The Dude abides…
