Pasadena 49 Glendale 35

(Pasadena) – Pasadena began each half nicely, limiting Glendale to single digits (6, 7) in the first and third frames and bought its starters an early deactivation by building a lead of 24 late in the third. The host Bulldogs beat the guest Nitros 49-35 in Pacific play and are 8-1 (one game back of league leader Muir) with 5 league games to go.

Brandon Jolley ended a streak of sub-par efforts with a solid 14 point, 2 block, and 12 rebound ballgame for Pasadena. Perris Hicks scored 10, while John John Haywood, doing most of the damage in the first with 2 steals and 2 assists, finished with 9 on 4-for-5 shooting.

Glendale’s Sevan Pogosyan also notched 14 points. Pogosyan was the leading scorer of the prior meeting against PHS with 25. The Nitros’ David Yetenikyan did an excellent job off the glass with 13 rebounds and was a bucket short of posting a double-double, having 8 points on the day.

Muir 54 Burbank 42

(Muir) – Muir zoned out and locked up in the fourth quarter and responded with a steady flood on the offensive end to avert a scare and dispatch Burbank 54-42. The Mustangs continued its magical run so far this season, improving to 20-1 overall and 9-0 in league, four wins away from securing at least a share of the Pacific crown.

Andre Frazier (8 points) was instrumental for the Mustangs in denying Burbank penetration in the paint, and set the tone in doing so by blocking five shots. Streaky wingman Jelani Mitchell led Muir with 13 points and 4 steals while point guard Dion Nelson pitched in with 12 points.

Arcadia 56 Hoover 52

(Hoover) – Taylor Lagace (18 points), Robby Haines (11), and Stephen Smith (11) all scored double figures for Arcadia, who snapped a three game losing streak by denying a stubborn Hoover unit 56-52. The host Tornadoes were lit up 18 to 4 in the first by the Apaches before doubling them up 22-11 in the second to pull within 3 (26-29) at halftime. Arcadia was up by 11 going into the fourth before withstanding yet another Tornado blast.
