Game Night: Week Six Mid-Valley Division

Marco Ramirez and the Spartans have a big Almont Opener against San Gabriel

All games are at 7:00 pm unless otherwise indicated

Friday 10/5

Almont League

San Gabriel (2-3) at Schurr (1-4)

Last Year: San Gabriel 21-10

San Gabriel took last week off after that miserable showing vs. Rosemead while Schurr was picking up its first win of the year against Whittier. It’s hard to believe that the Matador offense would again struggle that bad, especially after getting an extra week to work on it. Schurr’s defense can play and proved it last week. That being said San Gabriel should bounce back. Mats win.

Joel Sanchez and the Lions. Are they ready for Arroyo?

Mission Valley League

Arroyo (3-2) at El Monte (3-2)

Last Year: Arroyo 35-20

The Knights have picked it up the last few weeks with big wins over Rowland, Bye, and La Canada. The offense has seemed to find a groove. If all else fails, give the ball to Peter Aholoka. El Monte’s offense is clicking, that isn’t the problem. The question for the Lion faithful is how many more shootouts can they win? The defense has to make some plays at some point. Expect a lot of points Friday night but Arroyo’s defense makes the most stops. Arroyo survives.

South El Monte (2-3) at Rosemead (2-3)

Last Year: South El Monte 33-31

This one left a bitter taste for Rosemead last year. It was the last game of the season and it irked the Panthers all off season long. In one of Rosemead’s first practices last spring, Panther HC Marc Paramo kept shouting “33-31!, 33-31!” at his players while they went through drills hoping that the hurt of the loss would sting and motivate for this year. The Panthers had a bitter loss last week as well against Temple City while South was falling to San Marino. The Eagles get a quarterback back in transfer Levi Wells, so the offense should be better. Rosemead’s defense should be up to the task. It’s really a flip of the coin. It lands Rosemead.

Rio Hondo League

Monrovia (3-2) at South Pasadena (4-1)

Last Year: Monrovia 34-22

Some people think that Monrovia’s win over St. Francis wasn’t that big. I do. Some people think South Pasadena will give Monrovia a test. I don’t. The Wildcats aren’t going to mess around in league. The win over St. Frank’s is the beginning of a long winning streak. This one could get out of hand. Cats big.

Valle Vista League

San Dimas (5-1) at Nogales (1-4)

Last Year: San Dimas 42-6

Speaking of getting out of hand…uh, this won’t be pretty. God bless Sebastian Hernandez and the Nobles but like Monrovia in the Rio, the Saints won’t be tested in the V-Vista. Got a date and need to split early? Need time to grab a bite to eat? Enjoy train wrecks? This is the game for you. It will be over by halftime. Let’s hope everybody stays healthy. Saints in a smack down.

Alpha League

Viewpoint (2-3) at Paraclete (5-1) at Antelope Valley College

Viewpoint beat Brentwood last week to open league now the fun starts…Paraclete! The Spirits are heading for a showdown with Sierra Canyon on November 2. Does anything else here really matter? Well, Paraclete HC Norm Dahlia will tell you his team can’t take anybody lightly and with him preaching that week in and week out, they won’t. Paraclete wins in a rout.
