(San Gabriel)- Bishop Montgomery (6-1, 3-0) overcame three empty marches into the red zone in the first half, before a decisive third quarter left Bosco Tech (1-5, 1-1) behind as the Knights prevailed 35-14 Thursday night in Del Rey League play at Gabrielino High School.
Bryan Paredes (4 catches, 56 yards) took the opening kickoff 96-yards to paydirt, and careened into the end zone again on a 26-yard rush from scrimmage early in the second to give Bishop Montgomery a 14-0 halftime lead. There could’ve easily been more breathing room for the Knights, since three drives deep into Tiger territory yielded nothing because of missed field goals.
Bosco Tech went three-and-out to start the second half, and Bishop Montgomery swiftly scored on the ensuing series in two quick plays. Robbie Hou broke free for a 23-yard touchdown run, which was set up by quarterback Louie Soto on a 31-yard completion to Alex Hernandez.
Hou ran it 11 times for 47-yards and two touchdowns. Leading the way on the rushing end for Bishop Montgomery was a brutely built fullback in Michael Turner, who gained 72-yards on 10 runs and proved tough to tackle in the open.
The Tigers then unwound a 17-play, eight-minute and 22-second marathon to the Knight 38, which was soon nixed as Cameron Hughes returned a pick-six 70-yards down the western sideline to make it 28-0.
David Fuentez punched Bosco Tech into the scoring fray with two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter and finished having piled on 165 yards over 32 carries to lead the Tigers.
The Knights improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league. They will rest next week before challenging La Salle in a probable showdown of undefeated Del Rey league teams. The La Salle Lancers carry an undefeated 5-0 record and play at Kohorst Field tonight versus the Verbum Dei Eagles.
