Mustangs End Matadores Season

(Pasadena)  – Muir scored the final 21-points of the game as the Mustangs turned a 35-32 deficit into a 53-35 drubbing of La Mirada in the Opening Round of the Southeast Division playoffs.

Dejon Williams accounted for all the Mustangs scores throwing for six touchdowns and returning an interception to seal the victory for Muir. Williams finished the night 19-of-29 for 286 yards and ran for 77 yards.

The Matadores allowed the Mustangs to stay in the ball game in the fourth quarter after taking the lead at 35-32 after Dallis Todd reeled in his fourth touchdown of the night on a fade pass from Noah Santillian.

La Mirada’s last gasp efforts on its final three drives ended with a turnover on downs and two interceptions that resulted in the Mustangs breaking the game wide open.

*** The turning point came right after the Matadores took a 11-point lead. Muir quickly scored on pass from Williams to Tony Claxton. After stopping La Mirada on its next series, the Mustangs ran a Hot Route with Taeon Mason on an inside streak that caught the defense off guard for the score.

*** All four Todd touchdowns were on fade routes in which he out-jumped the defensive back.

*** Matadore running back Adam Carrasco ran for 128 yards on 29 carries and a score.

*** Nine different Muir players were credited with a reception, Watson led all recievers with 115 yards in receiving and 5 catches.

*** Santillian finished 11 of 29 for 154 yards with 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

*** In total 20 penalties were called between the two teams for a grand total of 212 yards.

*** La Mirada took a 21-17 lead into the half on a Santillian to Todd 33-yard strike right after Muir had called a time out late in the second quarter.

***On the final kick off of the game, both teams were flagged for off-setting personal fouls after  players began extracurricular activities.

***Muir will face Los Altos in the quarterfinals next Friday night.
