Kick it!

Sorry, not watching the World Cup…Not that there is anything wrong with it.

If a good friend led you to believe that they had a ticket for you to Game Five of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Rangers-Kings…and then told you it was just a joke…would you remain friends with that dirtbag Tim Peterson?

Yes, that really happened.

I have to say the guy I expected to got postal last week was Rosemead HC Marc Paramo. For the third time, since the start of last summer, he has lost a front line player to a private school.

Last summer linebacker Matt Henderson and cornerback Jesse Audelo went to Cathedral, and now he’s lost quarterback Steven Nava to Bishop Amat. I’ve seen Paramo go street rat crazy over less, but he’s held it together.

On my end it feels like we’ve added a new dimension to the off season. There’s summer, there’s the regular season, the post season, award season, coaches quitting season, and now there seems to be private school free agency season. I’ll take correction, I’ve never seen anything like we’ve seen this off season before. Have you?

If I’m a public school HC, and I’ve already got factors like finance and lack of on campus coaches working against me, I’m done throwing in tournaments or seven-on-sevens with private schools. I’m also going to stop being gracious and contest every transfer. There seems to be a growing attitude of “if a kid doesn’t want to be here, then let them go”…I agree, but if you take all the consequences for “recruiting” off the table then being a good guy, or being the bigger person, you’re just encouraging it to happen more and more.

“We build them up, we school them in fundamentals, we turn them into players, and then the private schools come in scoop them up. It’s bull-BLANK,” said one local coach.

If a kid wants to transfer, I understand…but with the new realignment I had three different local coaches, at different times, give me the names of five schools they said were flat out “dirty” in how they handled their business.

I won’t list them here, but they were all private schools.

MVS commenter “Bobby Knight” left a post saying we shouldn’t mention these transfers and deny them the publicity they might be craving.

Part of me understands, but if the media doesn’t talk about it who will? Every time the Trib, Star News, Mid Valley Sports reports about a transfer doesn’t it help raise awareness?

And I’m conflicted myself…A kid wanting to play football shouldn’t have to play football at Blair. That’s not right, a school district and a school, that has been a basket case for decades, shouldn’t even be playing football (frankly it’s dangerous). So let the kid transfer.

…But on the flip side, it does start to look like a meat market.

Regards:

In regards to Matt Kemp: He’s looking a little bit better now.

In regards to Montebello: Free safety Ivan Manriquez…He looks to be the “Dark Knight” to DC Brian Zavala’s “Dark Side Defense”.

In regards to Anthony Craft: Looking forward to seeing a local name get on the field, and get real playing time, for APU this fall.

In regards to Fantasy Baseball: If anyone wants Justin Verlander right now, I’m willing to deal him for F.P. Santangelo straight up.

In regards to LeBron James: “Watching Lebron lately, obviously on the court and in his dealings with the press, you really have to be impressed by the good man he is.”—Dennis Miller
