(El Monte) – Arroyo geared up for its biggest event of the summer – Saturday’s SGV Shootout- by hosting a four-way throw Thursday. Arcadia, Bassett and Schurr joined the Knights to toss it around.
Nico Hiller has the size that Arcadia fans used to see in their quarterbacks and he’s starting to find his targets as well. “He’s looking real good,” said Arcadia OC Eric Elias. “He’s been getting better all summer.” Also look out for senior Josh Benson who is in his third year on the varsity. He owns middle linebacker.
Bassett returns running back Ricky Mejia, who missed last year with a knee injury. Jesus Navarrette is a beast (yeah I used that word) at running back. The quarterback is sophomore Marcus Ruiz. “He just wants to get better,” said Bassett OC Jerry Urias said of Ruiz. “He’s a hard worker on the field and in the class room.”
Schurr is looking at three quarterbacks but the Spartan braintrust really likes freshman Adam Polanco.
Chaz Miller was lighting it up for Arroyo. By the time opening night rolls around Miller may have thrown more passes this summer than anybody in the valley.
