Kick it!

Right Off The Top: Lynwood has the talent to knock off Downey this week…But the question to HC Kendric Knox and the Knights is can they win a close game. The first five weeks of the season is kind of like rolling through Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, heck even France…but now you gotta battle the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces)…Can they win a close game?

My image is of Ty Webb talking to Danny Noonan on the links of Bushwood, but instead he’s talking to Lynwood. “Lynwood, see your future. Be your future. Make it, make your future happen.”

If Downey falls Friday…I have a feeling our message board is going to tilt.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-Clayton Kershaw. I like Clayton Kershaw, I think Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball…No argument from me on this. My struggle in regards to Clayton Kershaw is the people who talk about, write about, and post about him being the next Sandy Koufax.

Sorry, you’ve got to win a few big playoff games, let alone toss four no-hitters, to be considered the next Koufax. How about winning Game Three of the 1981 World Series, despite getting rocked early and not having your best stuff, like Fernando Valenzuela did.

…And then, of course, the whole division championship celebration by the Dodgers was so excessive. They spilled and sprayed a lot of bubbly for the National League West…maybe they should have saved it for something else.

It’s like someone telling you the best part of your life is being 16, when they have no clue how great 26 is gonna be. They can tell you the National League West is a great achievement, but only because they haven’t experienced the World Series.

Question: If Bonita ran on San Dimas, why can’t Northview?

Player to keep an eye on: Pomona Red Devil trenchman Keeven Whatley

I may be inclined to agree that Viewpoint’s schedule has been a little soft, but I really like Zach Chulak at quarterback.

El Rancho has lost nine of its last ten meetings against La Serna. I believe in the Ranch, I’m into the whole “You haven’t been hit till you’ve been hit by The Ranch” thing…but I can’t see them beating the Lancers this week.

My best memory of a Temple City-La Canada game might be in 2005 when the Rams fullback Williams Do picked up a blitz in the backfield late in the second half. He absolutely crushed a linebacker coming in off the edge… By the way TC won 35-15 and Tsun Tsai (Tsainamite!) rushed for 281 yards and three touchdowns.

Very curious to see what happens up at LC Friday night.

In regards to Maranatha and my optimistic view: “Come on Joe: What are you doing Dude. Applying the kiss of death to the Minutemen. Even with that it will be a great game against two evenly match teams that have a lot at stake. Will we see you on the field Friday?”—MVS commenter “Tom”

In regards to demographics: This might not be PC, but demographics are an issue in high school football. The reason Arcadia has not been stung by the changing cultural landscape until now is because they are the lone high school in a city with a population of 56,000.

In regards to Glendale: Give credit, where credit is do. The Nitros kicked the Apaches butt last Friday night. Not even the Arcadia people are denying that.

In regards to Alex Guerrero: How much did the Dodgers pay for him? What position will he play next year? He turns 28 this November.

In regards to Fantasy Football: Never really been into it that much.

The Dude abides…
