With the Southeast Division being a grudge match of two Miramonte League teams, I give you my 10 reasons why the Panthers defeat the Chargers.

10. Gus Viramontes is a year older and smarter – Viramontes has been a true leader for two straight seasons.  He remembers the feeling of losing last season and wants to change it.

9.  Charter Oak only won 12-0 in their first meeting this season The Panthers had just come off a brutal non-league schedule to hold the Chargers to their lowest output of the season.

8.  Diamond Ranch is deep at running back and wide receiver – If Amari Staten goes down, insert Jacoby Carter or Chase Price.  The Panthers have three capable receivers in Ryan Gibson, Brandon Taylor and Elijah Henley.

7.   The Panthers defense will be making life miserable Charter Oak sophomore quarterback Travis Santiago – Just ask Burroughs quarterback Lucas Yanez, Schurr’s QB Aaron Cantu and South Hills quarterback Jacob Shirley how tough it is to play against DR.

6.  Diamond Ranch has played a tougher schedule from top to bottom – In addition to their previous meeting against the Chargers, the Panthers have played against seven other playoff teams.  In fact their first eight games were against playoff teams.

5.  Jeff Stamp – He has the best leg in terms of field goals and kick offs.  Charter Oak having to start at their own 20-yard line will help win the field possession battle.

4.  Elijah Henley – Everyone knows about Charger safety/wide receiver A.J. Powell, but few know that Henley can change field possession just as well has his counterpart.

3.  No Way the Charter Oak goes undefeated against DR in the decade – The Panthers would love nothing more than to stop the Chargers run at back-to-back titles in the Southeast.  They would also love to stop a losing streak that started in 2000.

2.  Roddy Layton – Send him a text at some strange hour of the night and the coach responds about a rumor.   He also has managed to keep his scheduled time to be on the Mid Valley Sports show, even if it was a phone interview.

1.  Charter Oak stiffed us – Fool us once shame on you, fool us twice….With that said.  Charger coaching staff states they love what we do and want some karma.  So we leave Tuesday wide open for them.   Still waiting.
