Marc Paramo and the Panthers look like a contender despite loss

I liked what I saw out of Rosemead Friday Night. We know about Panthers quarterback Steven Nava and he had a solid night.

The Panthers also have as good of pair of wide receivers that you’ll see in the league in Jordan Parham and Darien Camacho. Angel Lopez is a hard nosed running back and Robbe Franco is another weapon as well.

Down 27-8 Rosemead rebounded to within 27-24 in the third quarter before succumbing to Northview. They never packed it in and let the Vikings know they were in a game. A loss to Northview is nothing to hang your head about. The Panthers look like legitimate contenders in the Mission Valley League. Don’t worry about their depth. They had over 40 players suited up.

As for Northview, yes I still like them in the Valle Vista. Steven Comstock, Andres Hooper, Elijah Grijalva and company did what they do in the 13 point win. Comstock is emerging as a dangerous dual threat and Grijalva was big on both sides of the ball. The Vikes are going to be tough to beat.

Ran into former Rosemead Panther three sport star Steven San Miguel Saturday night serving at a local restaurant. He is headed toward a career in broadcast journalism. Great personality, and if he has as much success in the broadcast field as he did on the sports field he’s got a bright future. Oh and Steven, you don’t have to call me “Mr.” Peterson.

Did I think St. John Bosco would beat La Mirada? Yes. Did I think they would obliterate the Matadores 76-8? Uh, no. Has to make you wonder if HC Mike Moschetti will reconsider scheduling Bosco again when the two year contract is up. La Mirada still has Mater Dei on the dockett in two weeks. Ouch! A tough schedule is good- it gets you ready for league – but when you see a score like that you tend to think they bit off more than they can chew.

According to our own Rich Whittington, Brian Tabatabai or no, El Monte still doesn’t like to punt.

Downey shut everybody up with a win over San Pedro. A lot of people, me included, thought San Pedro, an 11-2 team last year, would be too much for the Vikings but Downey knocked off the Pirates 13-2. Let the blog wars begin.

So is Bell Gardens or Montebello the team to beat in the Almont? Both had great performances. The Lancers did surprise me with their explosiveness on offense.

I have to believe it was more of Burbank being that good than Monrovia being that bad. Suddenly the Bulldogs look like “The Man” in the Pacific. Word out of M-Town is that there were a lot of players out and way too many mistakes. Still a loss is a loss…

Cal’s Robert Leos…looks like I spotlighted the right guy.

That’s my principle.
