Keppel Names Tuttle…Officially

After weeks of speculation, Mark Keppel officially named John Tuttle as its head football coach.

Acting Principal John Scanlan informed Mid Valley Sports on Tuesday night that Tuttle would also be on campus as a teacher.

“We’re excited to have Coach Tuttle on board to build the program and help it grow through the coming years,” said Scanlan. “He has a track record of turning a program around and we’re looking forward to the same here at Keppel. Coach Tuttle will also be on campus as a PE teacher, which we believe will go a long way toward building the long-term viability and success of the program.”

Tuttle, who prepped at San Marino High School, made numerous stops as an assistant before landing at Glendale as its head coach in 2012. In three seasons helming the Nitros, Tuttle produced a 10-20 record. That compares favorably to the programs three years prior to Tuttle when they went 4-26.

SGHS hit the field today with just over 40 kids. The frosh team had a respectable 20 kids with two Jr. High Schools not out until June 10th. Hopefully they are beginning to turn the corner.

Bassett has players to play but no coaches plus when they get new coach will they buy into a different system? Remember Craig Cisnek I think I spelled it correct. They hired him years ago and kids didn’t buy into system and most of them quit and he resigned just being there a month

Hope the coaches at Basset and Keppel as well as about 4 others in the MVN coverage area have the fiber to admit they cannot safely field a varsity team. With limited experienced players these boys will be forced to play both ways for 10 games. That exposes them to triple the hits of a fully fleshed out team with a experienced roster of 50 or more. 120 or more heavy contact plays game is just too many for any teenager. Wise up and admit it when your football teams viability is just not there. Play 8 man or jv or just quit but do something.

Not sure if true but word is that someone from Bassett went out to the middle schools and told the kids that they have a great football coach who is bulging a great team.

With no spring or summer Bassett is just setting themselves up for inexperienced kids to get hurt. Parents should be concerned about kids safety and what’s going on over there.

Good for the Keppel program in finding a coach. Now if Keppel can find a coach why can’t Bassett find one? Find a teaching position for coach and they should get one.

Wow. How about give him a year or two just to change the culture. Give him credit for taking one of the worst programs in the area. And what’s wrong with positioning himself better professionally (TEACHING!). Last time i checked, coaches at public schools cannot pay the bills and support a family with a $3200 coaching stipend. He will do well and so be it if he moves on or just teaches. He will leave the program better than what he got it. Isn’t that what really matters Kepple ( spell check much?) haters and supporters?

Has it happened more than once? That would indicate a track record, but if it’s just once I don’t think it does. And if he’s all about doing the minimum to get tenure, and now that he’s got tenure with Glendale USD, why is he seeking out a new situation after only one year of being free of coaching obligations? I had thought he stopped coaching at Glendale due to some personal/domestic difficulties.

For what it’s worth, I saw half a dozen Glendale games during his last two years. I thought he did pretty well for a school like that. His last year, they just missed out on a 5th place finish (and even threw a scare into Burbank); that doesn’t sound great, but considering where it happened… Of course it did help that he had the best (healthy) RB in the Pacific League that year

Typical of the Alhambra Unified School District. From the Sup to the AD, Admin & principal at Kepple. The athletes deserve better. No excuses for this. Good luck Aztec players you have fans and supporters rooting for you all.

So if he already had gotten tenured at Glendale then why would he leave and do it again and not just stay at Glendale?

As was stated before, nothing to write home about. He will teach his 2 years and one day to get tenured in the district and resign after 3 seasons just like when he was at Glendale. Prophetic vision? or track record statistic? Wish it were different for Keppel, but lets face the reality of the situation, just ain’t gonna happen.
