La Mirada (10-2) at Los Alamitos (9-3)
By rational forms of logic the Matadores shouldn’t be here. They should have been left shipwrecked with a second round loss to La Serna…But that’s only if you subscribe to logic…LM’s comeback last week defies logic therefore trying to assess them by merely looking at stats, record, and schedule is risky…It boils down to this…HC Mike Moschetti always has a next man up—even if it’s a sophomore kicker—but is Tristan Meyer healthy? The quarterback has had a big year and has the grit to deal with the worst of storms. If he’s ready to go…the Mats have a shot.
…If he’s not…then they’re going to need to conjure up another miracle.

Division 4
Sierra Canyon (11-0) at Charter Oak (11-1)
Both teams won 11 games despite having injuries to their starting quarterbacks. The Sierra Canyon offense revolves around Bobby Cole who rushed for over 1800 yards and 24 touchdowns. Charter Oak receivers Brian Casteel and Jermaine Braddock combined for over 17oo yards. Casteel rushed for 708 yards as well. Both teams can score but the Chargers can be stopped by a physical defense – Los Altos held them to seven points. It should come down to who makes a big play in the fourth quarter but in the end Sierra Canyon has just a little too much. Blazers stay unbeaten.

Wilson Long Beach (10-2) at Los Altos (12-0)
The Conquerors are on a mission. They haven’t lost all year and they aren’t about to now. Two years ago they played in the CIF Final game in the Central Division and lost. This year they’re raising the banner. Los Altos advances to Final.

Don Lugo (10-2) at Burbank (9-3)
We went against the Bank last week and we were proven wrong. The Bulldogs got it done offensively and defensively rallying to beat a solid opponent in Northview. Greg Gano, in his first year at Don Lugo has the Conquistadores in the semi finals after winning the Mt. Baldy League. They have beaten several quality opponents like Colony and Chino. Don Lugo did fall to Northview 35-28 in September. We won’t be fooled again. Burbank advances to first CIF Final ever.

Montebello (11-1) at Valley View (9-3)
Valley View hails from the Inland Valley League where it finished in second place and went 9-3 overall. The Eagles can score racking up 77 and 69 points in consecutive weeks. The Oilers had trouble scoring last week finding the end zone just twice including the game winner in overtime. They’ll have to be a little more efficient on offense to advance. The defense has been pretty solid and it will need to be again to hold down Valley View. Montebello survives the drive to out to Moreno Valley and the Eagles high scoring offense. In the end the Oilers will be the last team standing.

Segerstrom (11-1) at Arroyo (11-1)
Where is Segerstrom? What is Segerstrom? Did anybody know this school exists before now? Segerstrom finished second in the Golden West League, losing only to Santa Ana, a team that is still alive in the playoffs. So we know they can play. “They’re big and physical – about what you’d expect for this time of year,” said Arroyo HC Jim Singiser. Meanwhile the Knights seemed to have hit their peak at the right time. The offense has scored 90 points in two playoff games and after some early game struggles against Schurr, the defense settled in. It won’t be a walk over – a semi-final game rarely is. But the Knights have enough to get to the big game. Arroyo…close.

Rancho Christian (10-2) at South El Monte (11-1)
Its been a great run for South El Monte. Back in August, who predicted that the Eagles would be playing the day after Thanksgiving? But this looks like the end of the line. Rancho Christian can score with a balanced attack. The Eagles (yes also the Eagles) have won seven straight and beat a solid Whittier Christian team back in September. Rancho Christian gets the W.
