El Monte Search Continues; Knight Says No

By Tim Peterson

(El Monte) – Joshua Knight, who spent the last two years as an assistant at Arroyo, has turned down the head coaching job at El Monte.

Rumors were running rampant that Knight was going to be named the head coach at El Monte as early as last night. Multiple sources said it was a done deal. And although Knight did have interest he ultimately decided that it wasn’t the right fit and set the record straight Thursday.

“I decided to pass on it at this time,” Knight said early Thursday morning. “I just don’t think it’s a good situation for me.”

Meanwhile the coaching search continues for the Lions as they look for a replacement for Eric MacIntyre who stepped down after one year. Last year the Lions went 6-5 overall (4-2 in the Mission Valley League) and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Boron.

Having been apart of the good old EMUHSD I can tell you factually no one gets put on the agenda for approval until there is deal reached. Taking a tour of the the campus furthers cements the fact that this man accepted the job. But having said all that… put nothing past these folks at El Monte High School right now. Talk about the blind leading the blind. There probably isn’t a more poorly run athletic department in the entire Sgv than EM. So it can very well be true that this guy Knight accepted then backed out the day of and the brainiacs over there forgot to remove his name. Thus creating this shhhstorm. To the point of this being a ploy from arroyo to steal kids time will tell. I can tell you this there are at least two kids who have been illegally contacted from EM by Arroyo.
As for Rosemead. What a shot to the guts huh. Paramo bolts in the spring SMH… well I’ve heard some pretty big names coming in to take over I highly doubt it I just hope the allure of being the beta in the mission valley league is enough to get capable coach. The View is in dire need of a staff as they have lost most of the assistant coaches. Marshall needs a HC. MVL is falling apart. Sad too because this is such a close knit league where the kids pretty much grow playing with or against each other (jets, rebels, rams).
But in the bright side we have a CIF champion and semi finals team pretty much back in tack looking forward to that game
Two of the best players in area in Camacho Arroyo and Tovar SEM. The best staff in the area in the Knight staff led be his baldness himself. Let’s make lemonade out of these lemons aye!
