Spathias Lands at Los Altos

By Tim Peterson

(Hacienda Heights) – Former Bassett coach Hector Spathias, was named the head coach at Los Altos late Thursday sources confirmed.

In his final year at Bassett in 2015, Spathias led the Olympians to a 6-5 record and a playoff berth where they lost to San Dimas. Spathias left after the school after the season.

Spathias takes over for Dale Ziola, who stepped down after six seasons. Ziola guided the Conquerors to two CIF Finals appearances during his tenure including last year when they fell to Paraclete.

Spathias had been on Los Altos’ radar for some time but the school was waiting on board approval.

    Maybe we should look at his T-ball coaching record. Do you go to a veterinarian for your heart surgery? Mark my words this walk on will be a huge flop. Good thing Wilson and Walnut still around.

    Hey lol yes I’m a dad. ? Did I get the year wrong yeah. I get many days wrong lol. But I can honestly say I’m a Bassett dad that was proud of the way my son matured and developed as a football player with Coach Spat and staff. Plus the way he developed under as a baseball player with Coach Cuevas and coach Dave. JstaMom glad u got your answers and the explanations u needed to hear. Best of luck to Spat and staff

    After hearing Coach Spat tonight I can say his heart is in it. He fully explained the entire Bassett situation and took all questions and concerns we had. This season will definitely be different with an off campus Coach but we will make the best of it.

    This hire is far from a done deal. Plenty of questions remain unanswered for parents and players. This hire may be the new normal as far as parents being heard in the HC selection process.

    So Spat slapped a kid in the face a few times. Good for him, I heard the kid deserved it! More of these kids need discipline that you helicopter parents aren’t giving them.

    @exCoach..
    I have 5 sons, 2 have already graduated and went on to play college football. In all the years that I have been involved with football i have never had a coach label me an entitled parent. I have held volunteer positions from team mom to president of junior all american football and little league. I currently hold a spot as a booster for baseball and football they are both thankless positions that require countless hours and parent criticism. One thing I do know is that every great Coach always takes their parents concerns seriously, if a Coach cannot stand in front of parents and answer questions about his past he has something to hide.
