(El Monte) – Former Chino head coach Jesse Ceniceros has agreed to become the new head coach at El Monte Ceniceros confirmed Friday.
Ceniceros stepped down at Chino last week after two years at the helm. Prior to Chino he was the head coach at Norwalk. Ceniceros had an overall record of 13-10 at Chino and guided the Cowboys to the playoffs in both seasons.
Ceniceros takes over for Eric MacIntyre who resigned after just one year.
Ceniceros is known for running the double wing offense which he plans to continue at El Monte. Already in May, he will now quickly begin to assemble his staff and get his players ready for spring.
The hire may have surprised some people but the most surprised person of all may have been Ceniceros himself.
“If you would have told me last Friday that I would be the next coach at El Monte I would have said ‘your crazy,’ Ceniceros said. “I was planning on taking a year off to decide what I wanted to do. I didn’t resign at Chino to take the job at El Monte. I had no idea.”
Ceniceros said it started with a phone call from an area coach asking him if there were any openings on the Chino staff. “I told him ‘yeah the head coach job is open. I just resigned.”
That led to that coach putting Ceniceros in touch with the AD at El Monte and the eventual hire.
“They showed me around the campus and then we talked and they offered it to me. I was honored that they wanted me to be their head coach,” Ceniceros said. “It just felt right. I wasn’t aware of anything that had gone on at El Monte previously. Nothing. It was totally unexpected. But again it just felt right.”
Numbers are up from last year, some kids left, some kids came back into the program and with the addition of some new faces, Chino just might surprise people..guess we’ll have to just wait and see..
There is no way chino Is going to compete in that league. Kids leaving….no coach….just all bad!
Chino will be good to go this upcoming season.. They’re putting the pieces together to make a run in the Hacienda league.
I see no reason to call out arroyo’s schedule. However ER lined up Capo Valley, Norwalk, Cypress, Newport Harbor and BG in the preseason last year, 4/5 of those teams were playoff caliber opponents, Capo reached the finals and barely lost to Calabasas. This season Norwalk, Pomona, BG, Montebello and Cypress once again 4/5 playoff teams.
Okay “El” ninos. Back to your playpens.
@ranchero
Please enlighten me on El Rancho oh so tough schedule. The black & blue tradition don’t exist there anymore. Yeah you guys have a good coach, don’t get on your own high horse. No one is scared to El Rancho! Remember that.
At Arroyo
Temple city is a pop warner team.
Rowland is a JV team.
That’s how someone can say soft.
Whatcha gon do? I spell it s-o-f-capital T! Softttt!
@superman
Soft? Covina and Schurr is soft? Temple City has been week 2 for almost 20 years used to be a good game. Let’s not forget last year we played D3 hart. The CIF champs take on any all.
Staff looks good, Perea is back, Ledesma, Pete Carreon former Amat LB and Walnut DC, some older more experienced coaches on the freshmen staff this season for a change. In terms of talent there’s lots of it back, Weeks will be a monster this season, that along with a handful of transfers and return of some baseball kids bodes well.
@fridaynights we saw y’all last season for the scrimmage, I gave the slight edge to arroyo, but ER was dropping bombs. Also them boys up on that hill will be brought back down to earth!
Arroyo lets start some SHH; why do you schedule soft in pre season?
@Rancho
Don’t start no shh, won’t be no shh.
Lotsa PR guys want back in at Don football to ride the bandwagon. Hope Medrano does not fall victim to sideline coaches that can destroy a program like happened to Monrovia, Buena Park etc.
@ Anonymous, El Rancho is scrimmaging arroyo. Don’t try to stir things up. Ranch fans have been able to stay quiet because it’s 2 early.
The staff looks good. Medrano hired 2 older coaches who have lots of experience. Ledesma is 1 of them. He brought back Perea who was the one good coach from Hiatts staff. And it looks like he’s cleaning up the freshmen staff to
Let’s just hope the board members keep their opinions out of football.
Why isn’t anyone talking about the staff El Rancho is putting together? Heard they tried to get Arroyo on the schedule and they said ” no thanks” lmfao
Platinum, anonymous must be the same idiot do you honestly believe that you can hide behind the cover of a fictitious name on the MVS web site as someone that loves high school sports from basketball, softball, baseball, football , track I have enjoyed reading the The positive and negative comments made about the new head Coach at El Monte HS must be one hell of a Coach Anonymous and platinum must be a disgruntled ex coach negative comments have gone a bit too far do you honestly believe that you can hide behind these fictitious names even the great Wizard was exposed your last comment is borderline racial have you ever heard of the term false accusations, character assassination advice look them up ! Even the Pentagon can be hacked …!
Let’s raise our glasses and toast Ceniceros, a man who has proven his worth with a 100-plus comment rating on this site. Certainly Jesse deserves a special banquet, sponsored by MVS…and with the dollars flowing through this outlet, approximately 3 tacos on Tuesday will be the fare.
