(El Monte) – Cantwell, Schurr and Marshall visited Arroyo Saturday to toss the ball around.
Of course the first question is always who looked good? Arroyo did but with Ernesto Camacho returning at quarterback that’s to be expected. Most of Arroyo’s skill position players are back. Schurr HC David Ramos and new assistant Eric Elias both like the Spartans quarterback. Cantwell’s Travis Brown had high praise for his QB as well. He’ll be a junior when the season kicks off in September. The Cardinals have a strong core group of good young players – mostly sophomore and juniors.
Marshall? Well the Eagles have a long way to go but at this point they’re just thankful they have a new coach in place and players to fill the roster.
Here’s a few shots.
SEM at Montebello 7v7 scrimmage sem is tackling hitting as if they are in full pads lol
How about the other teams from the area
arroyo looked very good Camacho had very good passes . Cantwell is starting to look sloppy.
Arroyo just had a 7v7 passing scrimmage
Hesperia
Cantwell
Basset
Montebello
Anybody know how it went,who looked good?
Lol @fan
I think you’re understating the kids here. It’s not that they being Arroyo get blue chip kids.
But they get more of the kind of kids that play football before high school. Mountain view Gabrielino and Marshall probably get 1-2 per year. SEM EM and Rosemead 3-5 per year while Arroyo annually gets 10-12 multiply that by 4 then you can see the disparities.
Then you factor in the coaching staff. Arroyo has seasoned professionals on staff Rosemead just lost Paramo and his biggest gripe was his staff consisted of recent graduates who he had to teach while running a program. And guess what the Arroyo staff just got better add McCarthy to staff . South El Monte with Mooney is probably the only coach who can scheme vs Arroyo… I’m not even sure he’s the Coordinator which shows you how smart Gallardo is. Point is barring a special player it’s Arroyos title to lose every year.
Not an Arroyo fan by any means, but damn guys have you seen the kids they have. They look no different than the rest of the leagues players. Ok they may have a guy here and here but who doesn’t. The difference is the staff at Arroyo…… kids want to go there and play for the coaches. Kids like winning and yes Arroyo wins, they beat the small schools. You don’t like it then beat them. Nothing will change until the other MVL schools get better coaches. SEM has one, El Monte just had a great hire, we shall see about Rosemead.
@superman
Arroyo loves being the shark in a small pond. Singiser is going to hall of fame by beating these smaller schools. He gets praise not criticism.
Cathedral is s school of convenience. When they are recruiting, they are big time! Better than SJB, MD and BA. When it’s time to schedule a preseason… they’re a small school lol. Sleeze ball head coach gives me the hives.
To start Cathedral Admin and all it’s holiness know they cheat and allow , its hypocrisy at is best.
Arroyo you schedule soft , other teams have called you in time and Arroyo says no thanks and hang up. Oaks Cristian used to do this also when Lara at LBHS used to call them . lets face it Arroyo can compete with bigger fish but they are happy if they had to go 10 games VS Marshall with a team of 18 and size of middle school players.
Also hey Danny, there are a ton of anonymous on here smart guy!
So gate lol answer the phone when Narbonne calls Danny. Or Charter oak or anyone above d7 for that matter. All you coaches on the cathedral staff are jokes. You make the school look foolish
Downtown Disney and Annoymous The same person why don’t you tell You’re So. Gate Rams to call Cathedral for a game. Will , You are a Pathetic Loser.
You haven’t heard Cathedral Bragg about stats? That’s all they do is talk about numbers and how many kids they get out. They live off it. It’s a recruiting tool. Angelus is a tough league? Yeah right! St Francis is gonna be bad this year and everyone else woefully bad. I hope CIF makes them pay for a lack of schedule. On top of all that they’re trying to get of Loyola
I have never heard or seen anything that Cathedral was bragging about stat’s. How about Salesian last year they played a weak schedule to build up stats Verbum Dei , and Huntington Park with D1 Players. Their QB Blosser threw 9 td’s against a very weak HP Team and Bragged about it. The Angelus League is a Tuff League. Cathedral and St. Francis could play with most teams. I agree, St. Paul La Salle, Harvard Westlake, and Salesian are not very good anymore. Salesian’s QB and D1 Players checked out of School after Football Season was over.Tells you a lot about Salesian as a School. I think You guy’s should worry about You’re own programs before you point fingers. Just Saying.
Downtown Downey, see what you did. Now you got theses morons defending and attacking this damn school. Best to not even mention them, especially when they’re not the topic.
Cowardly Phantoms not only schedule double digit division teams but they play in the Weak at best Angelus league. Cathedral stats mean absolutely nothing. Asterisk all the numbers
How come the hate?
How about a D3 scheduling D9 and 10 teams then bragging about stats lol… that’s probably why IMO
Cathedral is a Good program. I don’t understand all the hate for Them. There are a lot of other School’s doing a lot more than Cathedral. Everybody get transfers so what is the problem blasting them. Everytime I get on this board the same person is talking bad about Cathedral. I’m sure alot of us on these boards have had enough.
Downtown Downey, shut up already. You’re obsessed with cathedral! Topic ain’t even about those losers, damn dude get over it. I hate them too, that’s why I never bring them up. It makes them relevant. If they start talking crap by all means have at it, but this topic has nothing to do with them. Smh.
@Anon
Sorry to tell you buddy but Cathedral has been scheduling like this for years. The head coach thinks it looks better when he can say our Qb threw for 10,000 yards and our receivers caught 10,000 passes. He has zero interest in competition or team preparation and the results have proven that. How many schools do you know with the amount of kids with the ability to play in college lose to teams with literally half their talent? Funny thing is they are actually trying to play the under dog role… as if D3 could ever be the underdogs vs D10 teams. But Cathedral will be truly that delusional… even after the Hawkins kids come in lmfao. This is what they do schedule low put up huge numbers and bow out early…the Cathedral way.
As it stands 99% of teams have their schedules done by February. So your schedule is set by the time they announce. With that said how can you schedule a pre-season aligned to your division? So if Arroyo’s coach said, “Are you kidding we got bumped to D8! We are screwed.” Would that be better? CIF puts you wherever your power ranking slots you. Once there shouldn’t the attitude be, “bring it on”? I mean there is nothing you can do about it anyway. Now, if the question is would you like to know? Sure, who wouldn’t. But that isn’t the way the CIF has set this up. So you just schedule to prepare your team. Try and remember your CIF placement is based on previous 2 seasons results, along with strength of league. Geography, school size, etc. are not factors. So having Covina, Rowland & Hart must have worked out well for Arroyo since they won the D12 title and played in the State game! Isn’t that what a schedule is supposed to do? Prepare you as best as possible for CIF? If you really want to examine schedules for teams playing well below their placement, look at D3 Cathedral who had division 8, 9 & 10 teams on the schedule. Or D6 Bonita who had 8’s and 10’s on theirs. Or D7 South Hills who played a D12 LC & D13 TC. Not knocking those programs. They are proven winners, but they felt the need to schedule the way the scheduled as well. Maybe to build confidence, maybe they got dropped and had to add a team last minute? Who knows? As for school colors? really? Hahaha… Must be bad if you have to go after school colors. Sorry, silver and black were taken. Good luck next season.
Cantwell won how many games last year? I guess they base their success on these passing leagues. Remember you need lineman that can actually block and rush the passer. In November you can go watch Arroyo or Schurr in the playoffs.
Arroyo coachs quoting “we do not care what division, bring it on” you do care, as you won’t play before league good teams , you schedule soft, like your colors .
Amazing how the negative posts are from people that did not show up to this event. Say what you want about Cantwell, they have half the roster of Schurr and Arroyo, but competed at their level. Schurr and Arroyo looked balanced on Offense and Defense while Cantwell showed strength at QB and Receiving Core.
@Vikings
Uhhh….. Boooooooom! No comment? Lol
I think what you like is for Arroyo to leave the league so that might up your chances. But as that gentleman so bluntly put it… you’re in dead last anyway so it doesn’t and won’t matter for a long time.
I agree Martinez was a beast how with a kid like that do end up in last? Bottom line mountain view has its own problems to fix before they worry about fixing the league.
Just saying if The Cantwin QB was the best yesterday,than the other School’s are in trouble. All Those School’s are in a Weak Division.
@anonymous so they are all the best then?
Quit crying. Singiser has never been on the CIF Board. I don’t think CIF has an active coach on the Executive Board. The last year he was on the coaches committee was in ’14. Sanchez took over after that season. Since he resigned the MVL doesn’t have a coach on it. It’s right there in print in the CIF Blue Book. Clown! Quit worrying about Arroyo. Focus on your team. They are dead last in MVL wins over the last, well forever (excluding Marshall, but Marshall has more wins since joining). You had arguably one of the best players in the MVL last year in Martinez and did nothing. When was your last winning season? That’s what I thought. Shhh… I liked it better when every year MV claimed the MVL title went through them. Hahaha… and don’t cry about Arroyo’s school size. They are 6-1 vs BG, Montebello & Schurr with a disadvantage of 400-900 kids. Far more than the difference between Arroyo and the MVL (except SEM/Marshall). Just stop. If your an adult grab a whistle and coach or if your a kid, get off the blogs and go lift! What SEM/Arroyo did isn’t a negative. It is a rare bright spot for the MVL. Also, genius… on the off chance you make CIF, the success of SEM/Arroyo will help your overall CIF power ranking. Enjoy it.
My Point is look who was out there Yesterday Cantwin, Marshal, Arroyo and Schurr. That’s the answer.
@comedy doesn’t bello have a QB already?
If you a technical answer..the Cantwell Qb was by the best out there today. He reads the field very well and throws a soft ball. Arm strength is average at best and can’t make all the throws. Now Physically the Arroyo Qb wins that match up. He has the arm strength but lacks reading the field. As with most air raid qbs they pretty have there mind made where they’re going with ball pre snap. Long wind up release needs to change. The Schurr Qb gets everything out of himself. Short but makes big plays reads fairly well won’t make the spectacular throw but is accurate. Over all Cantwell is better can play next level. Arroyo is a college safety not a Qb. Schurr Qb just a good high school Qb.
Schurr looked good out there. The Little QB can definitely spin it!
The Cantwell QB isn’t very good! Have you seen him throw?! Overrated! Arroyo QB not very good but better… Schurr QB is ok but let’s be honest, he’s the only QB who plays in a run first offense…
Anyone know who looked the best out there?!
QB from Cant”do anything”well didn’t look bad. He’ll do good at Bello.
Cantwell program is Horrible. The Cantwell QB looked good in 7 on 7 and against Schurr, Marshall, and Arroyo.
So which quarterback did the best?
Does the cantwell QB have any offers? The kid is good
