High School Softball Area Top 20

After spending the last week at Duarte watching some talented teams, it was time to put out the first of many Top 20 rankings for this season.

One thing is clear, La Canada appears to be firing on all cylinders with the double-headed pitching machine of Lauren Cox and Lauren O’Leary.

South Hills has a special player in Brittney Rodriguez who is mature beyond her years and handles a very young pitching staff.

Arroyo and La Salle could meet up in their Division finals this season with each team bolstering a tough pitching staff.  Glendora would also like to finish up the season at UCI as well.

Whittier Christian and San Dimas would like a rematch of last year’s thrilling Championship finale.

  1. La Canada (4-0) – Anna Edwards is the leader of a very young Spartans team that will go as far as it’s pitching will take them.
  2. Los Altos (2-0) – Conquerors have Courtney Gano and Alyssa Villalpando in the mix for a title run in 2010.
  3. Glendora (5-1) – Tartans lost rematch of last year’s San Dimas Tournament Championship to Etiwanda on Saturday.
  4. South Hills (4-1) – Huskies were the second best team in Duarte Tournament, even though they played for third place.
  5. Arroyo (3-0) – Averaging nearly nine runs a game scoring and will be La Salle’s biggest rival in their division.
  6. Village Christian (3-0) – Crusaders are unbeaten early in the season and haven’t allowed a run.
  7. Bonita (6-0) – Bearcats begin the season on a roll with Palm Springs Tournament Championship.
  8. Crescenta Valley (0-0) – Falcons lose three Division I players to graduation.
  9. La Salle (2-2) – Lancers faced their toughest tests early in South Hills and LA Marshall.
  10. West Covina (5-1) – Bulldogs were unable to continue five-game winning streak over Bonita.
  11. Charter Oak (4-1) – Pitcher Cassie Andrews has yet to allow a run and is 3-0.
  12. Whittier (4-1) – Cardinals made too many errors in loss to South Hills and are early favorites to win Del Rio League.
  13. Burbank (3-1)  – Early loss to Charter Oak in San Dimas Tournament is their only blemish.
  14. San Marino (1-1) – Titans wouldn’t shock experts if they win Rio Hondo this season.
  15. Arcadia (3-2) – Apaches nearly pulled off the upset of La Canada in Duarte Tournament.
  16. Schurr (3-2) – Spartans slow start against La Canada cost them opportunity to win Duarte Tournament.
  17. Temple City (3-2) – Rams will be tough to beat if their pitching can come through.
  18. Alhambra (2-1) – Early season loss to Gabrielino raises doubts for Moors to make a serious run against Keppel.
  19. San Dimas (0-2) – Don’t count Saints out, especially with Kortnie Clarke in the circle.
  20. Whittier Christian (0-2) – 2010 CIF-SS Champs have losses to Mater Dei and Clovis.
