Having said that, I believe that Coach Bergstrom is also a good leader, and he might still accomplish a turnaround with AHS football.

@ Alhambra baseball: Steve Gewecke is a great guy and a proven winner in baseball. It’s a privilege to work with him at Alhambra High.

@Ron to me the temple city game should what coaching does. Temple city has been a struggling program and under there new coach there improving.

While at Alhambra Eric in has had three years not count has first year and you can’t point to progress being made. U can say making playoffs last year but the almont was a struggling league.

Yeah, A-Town, you’re completely right concerning the level of the opponents we’ve beaten.
I can assure you and the others that we hate to lose as much as you do. Perhaps you can at least admit that a road win over a substantially improved Temple City team is a start.
I’ll agree that we took a big step in the wrong direction against South Pasadena. We’re working to correct what went wrong in that game, We’re not giving up, by any means.

@ Anonymous: Aaron Sepulveda won something like 10 per cent of his games at Keppel. Are you suggesting he’d do better than that at Alhambra because AHS has more talented players? I’m not sure he’d do any better than Coach Bergstrom, but I’d have to learn more about Sepulveda’s pre-and-post-Keppel credentials. Perhaps the Keppel experience didn’t do him justice.
    Have a pleasant day, sir.

Hate to burst your bubble. But my kid already graduated from a 4 yr college like his pop. And I know for sure he’s more secure in his future than any kid you could produce. Must be tiff for you and your kid to live in the basement of your parents house. Keep flipping those burgers my friend. $15.00 an hour is only a year away.

Last time I checked it was Zero. But does that mean they don’t try ? It’s pretty obvious someone is just taking a shot at the school. If you guys are so good then just reveal it. Show us who you are so we can congratulate you. That would take some guts to do. I know it will never happen though. No guts…

A-Town has the facts straight on the reasons for Alhambra’s misery. Vrooman is spinning words, like anyone can in any issue whatsoever, to make Bergstrom the innocent bystander in this fiasco. He’s giving the guy a pass, trying to float the notion that the Moors are on the cusp of turning things around, when even a blind man looking through five feet of lead can see that AHS under Bergstrom is a bust.

@Insider:Truly sorry if the facts burst your bubble of your kid going to a private and getting a full ride to college for playing football. Some football players can add 1+1 but apparently not yours with your sage advice. Maybe you are right. Let him keep ramming heads at a big football high school. Maybe that will knock some sense into him. Clearly mule headed pop won’t.

Why don’t you read your own quote. How many football players do you actually think are advanced placement students ? Any advanced placement student, regardless of where they go to school have an advantage over those that aren’t advanced placement students. We’re talking about football players genius. I’m sorry if I offended your chosen profession. I’m sure flipping burgers has been beneficial to you. Time to move out of the basement my friend. The real world awaits.

@ron let’s put the playoff berth into perspective we beat keppel and San Gabriel who are struggling football programs. Bg was rebuilding and Alhambra barely beat them. Alhambra got dominated by Schurr and montebello.

Let’s look at Who Eric has beaten under his tenure they have beat San Gabriel, keppel, la Wilson, and temple city. One game against BG which was last year.

And if want to say the lack of a feeder program is a problem. It doesn’t same like it looking at the lower level success that we are having. so something is happening when these kids get to the varsity level.

My guess is Eric doesn’t understood how to coach high school football being that most of his experience is in college.

@ Gut Check: Yes, it’s “gut check” time at Alhambra High.

The loss to South Pasadena on Friday night was ugly. There’s no doubt about it.
However, a few facts should be kept in mind:

    1. Alhambra made the playoffs just last year, and it was the first time that the Moors had qualified for postseason play since 2011, when Lou Torres was the head coach.
    2. Based on the tone of your post, one could swear that Alhambra is 1-3 or 0-4 on the season. For the record, we are 2-2.
    3. Our two losses in 2017 have been to teams that currently have a combined record of 9-1. (South El Monte is 5-0, and South Pasadena is 4-1.)
    4. While our blowout win over L.A. Wilson might be considered an anomaly, we’ve also defeated a much-improved Temple City team on the road.
    5. Coach Bergstrom not only inherited a program that was in near-total disarray in 2013, he has also had to function without the benefit of a feeder youth program. The Alhambra Thunderbirds disappeared years ago. Many of our freshmen are playing tackle football for the first time, and, for some, it’s the first time they’ve ever played on an organized sports team.
    6. Our current mediocrity is the gold standard for football in the Alhambra Unified School District. The Moors have achieved a slight amount of success during the last two years despite playing in the dumpiest football facility AUSD has to offer. San Gabriel has a beautiful facility, and Keppel at least has a decent stadium, but we’ve still outperformed both of those programs.

By the way, I don’t cheerlead for anyone; my work is journalistic in nature.
I provide statistical information to the Alhambra coaches and the public, and I reserve the right to express some opinions which are based on the facts that I have at my disposal.
My candor has generally been appreciated on the AHS campus, even when the news I bring isn’t pleasant. I also work for free, so I feel free to speak my mind.
I appreciate everyone’s interest in the Alhambra High football program. I join you in hoping for continued improvement.
    Have a pleasant evening.

Boy do you live in lala land.According to the most recent study by Harvard Law a far greater percentage of public high school advanced placement students graduate university than football scholarship boys. You may want to reconsider who is actually going to be flipping burgers. Going to a private or a football factory to play is a waste in the long run.
