Everyone seems to overlook the league and division that workman plays in. You can take almost any 2 upper division athletes drop them down to the lowest division possible and see them be #1 and #3 in the nation. All their stats might be significantly lower if they were playing againt above average teams. Spat is a good Coach and he could have done so much more at LA if given the chance

Yes we all know that a coach does not do it alone. Coach Spathias knows it’s a team effort. And that is also at LA, Bassett and also when he named coach of the year for his baseball team at Basset years back. He learned from some good coaches. Give credit we’re credit is due.

@annon, awfully long post for somone to write about a coach, looks like someone has a thing for Spathias. Anyway, same stats? I did a little research myself. The QB has 1000 more yds passing in 10 games this year than last and nearly 1000 yds rushing to go with it, Workman averaged 14pts a game last year. This year they’re scoring 36pts a game. QB is #3 in the state total offense, WR is #1 in the nation receiving. Just giving you facts an not opinion.

Other than Spathias and his (grown Men)boys coming on here and blowing up this blog, there is a very simple conclusion if you use some common sense. First off, Spat is a good coach no doubt about it. There is proof in the pudding especially with lower level football. But to say his success at Los Altos was all him and done by nobody else…. well to people who know football and have common sense know that is a lie. Los Altos is an established football program they get numbers, support, and the name of the program to put together a pool of kids to work with. These kids grow up playing football and come from other schools so they can play at a high level. Although it was suppose to be a down year, do not dis credit what Ziola and his staff did before. The establishment of the program and what he and his staff did to bring the name back to LA was massive for the program. Kids were staying home to play at LA and people wanted to play there. So yes the immediate result is competing at your level in the coming years because there is something there to work with. Yes Spat did have an above average year but he did have an established pool of kids to work with and resources. That is not starting from scratch Mr. Hector
Now with Workman it is the same to a certain extent ( Its workman not LA lol). To say workman didnt have nothing and has never done anything in the recent past is also a cloudy statement. An easy tool I used called GOOGLE shows that almost the same numbers came from the same kid LAST year and Workman made the playoffs LAST year for the first time in a while at 4-6. Now I dont remember too much about them other than they did have a nice little season. I also heard the guy was a NV guy so whether or not he transferred him in or not, different topic and could be whats wrong with HS football bringing in players but different day different topic. To say spat built that on his own, dont take credit for something that was built before like you did at LA with Ziola with Robles. Remember Spat has been a 5-5 coach his entire career and had 1 winning season at Bassett at 6-5. He didn’t repeat a CIF run with like Ziola at LA understandable, and he won 1 more game than a first year coach in Robles at Workman and wants to claim fame. To be honest wasn’t spat going for the Nogales Job? From what I remember word around town was Ziola was first offered the job at Nogales but they wanted a on campus guy and he is already teaching at LA . Well they went with Robles the old Workman guy from last year and he left last minute … Maybe some animosity right there… I think so Hector. In the end Spat, your’e a good coach, don’t come on here trying to convince the public that you made that QB at Workman like how you said you MADE the program at LA. Just keep coaching football.

After seeing the brackets come out, Workman might beat Savannah, but they will not beat Adelanto. Let’s say by some act of god they do beat Adelanto El Monte will be there to end workman’s season. You’re right, SM put up 76, but that was a division 9 school who went 8-1-1. And El Monte still put up 38 on them. On the flip side Workman allowed 38 points to an 0-10 Sierra Vista. A team that Bassett held to 6 points and got slapped around all season.

Cmon man, Los Altos lost to West Covina and when we played them Los Altos didn’t even put up a fight, the game was over at halftime. I saw a number of good athletes on Los Altos, but when you have the parents making the decision you don’t have a chance. We are just glad your AD replace both your previous coaches. Dale and Spat coaches circles around your current coach. The best way to judge a coach is how the team does after he leaves. Los Altos record this year is 4-7, 5th place with a lost to West Covina enough said. So you can’t tell me Dale and Spat are not good coaches. I think both are very good at what they do. Nobody could have told you that Workman would do what they did this year. Good for those kids and everybody pulls for the underdog. There is no bigger underdog than Workman.

You can beg to differ all you want, but you’d still be wrong. Workman was not even going to have a season before Spathias took over. Kids were all looking for schools to try and play somewhere. You LA people can continue to show your ignorance, but you don’t have to lie. Enjoy your future….

I beg to differ that Workman don’t have transfers its all good talk to me when Workman gets to D5 and play real competition. YOUR probably right that LA will be eliminated in the first round but the competition level is 10 times better than D13 that Workman will never know.

LA made the playoffs because there is 22 teams in your D5 division. That’s the only reason Los Altos made the playoffs. Hope I see you commenting next season when Los Altos gets worse and after they get rolled on Friday. By the way Workman doesn’t have any transfers this year 0, how many does los altos have? 7! Loser. Get a life. Here’s a fact though, Los Altos’ worse record for the rest of existence could be 1-9 since they’ll always have POWERHOUSE Wilson on their schedule. SCHEDULE UP THEN TALK since Los Altos is so MIGHTY and GREAT.

LA plays D5 with their league being one of the best in the valley but yet make the playoffs, workman went 5-5 with a couple of transfers in D13 and are acting like good coaches come on…Co Champs with Nogales……all if a sudden….Spats staff could not win the BIG Games at LA that meant the most….D13 is jr midget/midget football all you need is 2 to 3 good players to win……Good Job Spat.

Schurr in and Whittier out? Schurr tied for 3rd in a weak league and Whittier takes La Serna to the final minute. Ranked 20 points higher and played a real schedule? If they played each other Whittier would be favored by 30 or more. SUPER SAD!!!! Whittier would have competed well for a D10 title.

I just saw where Montebello has a first-round division 9 game at home, whereas the team which beat them in league (Alhambra) hasn’t even been accorded a spot in lowly division 13. I know the Moors don’t stand a snowball’s chance at winning that D13 title (El Monte’s already clearing the streets for their parade), but this situation speaks to the inequity of CIF’s current system.

I attended the Schurr vs. Bell Gardens football game Friday night, I was surprised to see Bell Gardens playing so well. Offensively and defensively they didn’t miss a beat while I was also surprised to see Schurr look so bad. Offensively, Schurr’s QB looked confused while defensively it looked as if they hadn’t watched film all week. Was an interesting game to say the least, especially when you add the history of Coach Ramos and Bell Gardens High School. Good luck to all that made the playoffs!

I’ll eat the crow….so many damn missed tackles. It was disappointing to watch…will monrovia even make the playoffs. Still dont believe SM played a tougher non-league schedule. But congrats to the titans because they ran the ball down our throats and we couldn’t stop the easy misdirection QB runs.

    Reaper,

You don’t know if mhs started the fight. It was just on our side on the field. But based on the situation it’s easy to say that monrovia started the fight based on frustration of letting the game get away from them. Again congrats to SM they played flawlessly and our defense couldn’t tackle and our QB couldn’t make the throws that he needed to make.

Workman is like every other school, they get a couple transfers from higher division schools and they come down to d13 and shine so bright they can’t be looked passed. Most parents probably wanted the QB that played frosh and jv to start as the varsity QB a local home grown kid. Most parents play on emotion

@slapadelics, your name is very fitting. It doesn’t take genius to figure out who you are, my money is on you being the same moron coach on twitter complaining about his team not making the playoffs when they only won 1 league game. Instead of trying to minimize what those kids at Workman did, why don’t you try and hit up a few hundred clinics and coach your kids up. YOU have no one to blame but yourself! Beat it you clown….
