It’s Official: El Monte CIF Champs

By Tim Peterson
(El Monte)-After a complete review of the Adelanto-Orange Vista brawl Friday night CIF has declared the game a double forfeit and confirmed that El Monte, by virtue of its 22-15 win over Jurupa Hills, is the Division 12 Champion.

The game was called by the officials in the third quarter after the brawl broke out with Adelanto leading 41-0. CIF has conducted a complete investigation since that time as they reviewed the film and spoke to all of the officials involved. Sunday they announced their decision.

El Monte finished the season 13-0 with victories over Ocean View, Nordhoff and Jurupa Hills in the playoffs. It’s the Lions first championship since 1930.

5-5 and 8-5 were records in 2010 and 2011 don’t see the relevance 2019 scheduleing
2016 record was 9-3 still nothing to do with 2019
Looking forward to state playoff for EMHS

What people fail to see is scheduling that game was easy when you basically had 7 bye weeks against the likes of Mt View, Gab, Marshall, Rowland, TC, etc.

Those commenters who are urging that the Adelanto-EM game should be allowed to proceed do so under the notion that the championship should be decided ‘on the field.’ Please notice that when the Adelanto players left the bench to brawl, they DID lose their chance at a title ON THE FIELD.

What I take away from your comment is yup, your a hater and what your saying is Arroyo is no one. The fact that, and I’m assuming, your a grown man who comes on here time and time again to bash kids makes me think you have NOTHING better to do with your time. So what if El Monte got a good player from another state, Arroyo has been doing a LOT of recruiting and other questionable tactics for many years, EVERYONE knows it and it didn’t work in your favor this year so now you wanna cry. Their KIDS! GROW UP.

They beat the same teams in MVL you claim undermanned yet could go undefeated. You sir ARE a true hater and a moron.

For the sake of sounding like a homer eff it I’m gonna say it anyways, get over the transfer bs arroyo is just as guilty pls prove me wrong, and as far as schedule goes you have no clue how some schools avoid playing coach c perfect example and pls feel free to fact check, while he was at Norwalk he had trouble finding a week one game any team that had that week open told him no, so the only team available that year was St John bosco so coach c ended up signing 2 year contract, so u can’t tell me he’s interested in stats and an easy schedule because I know your beloved arroyo and singiser would never sign a contract to play a nationally ranked team but guess who did

At the risk of sounding like a hater here I’m gonna say it anyway. This is exactly what’s wrong with HS football. EM goes out recruits players all over the place even out of state players, they play a preseason that Gabrielino could’ve went undefeated in they played no one! It’s quite fitting that EM plays no one for the championship! It’s the story of their season. They put up stats got victories against teams who were simply overmatched. We will never get to see how good this team really is. That’s a shame. I take nothing away from the lions players for they had no input on the schedule or the dumb dumbs over at Adelanto who don’t know any better than to leave the bench because the other team who’s down 41-0 want to fight! But like I said EM this is a microcosm of your season played no one beat no one for a title. Congratulations… I guess (insert noise maker sound)

    @ El terrible

Im guessing that you have fingers full of CIF rings. Winning a CIF championship is a great accomplishment and going undefeated is amazing. Coaches that coach the game of football will tell you its not easy. You may be right by saying that El monte will struggle in the upper division but, that is why they move you up or down in the attempt to keep the playing fields fair across the board. We are talking about a CIF championship at EL MONTE! a school that has not seen a lot of success throughout the years until Coach Cineceros came into town. So lets stop the noise and instead praise this great accomplishment by a local team.

Really? Wow! It’s all good for the MVL. Love goes out to all the boys on the Lions football team. It’s not your fault! It would be nice to see you beat the team that took destroyed the team in one half that you beat. And because of those values they are teaching many of those recruited kids on both teams at Orange Vista and Adelanto we won’t get a chance to see that but for all of you haters and fans alike. It looks like the Lions are going to get a 4A State Regional Bowl appearance. Then after you bet another CIF champion you can erase the asterisk next to your name. As well as a state bowl appearance and possible championship. Good luck to you all. Hey maybe you can travel away like Arroyo did, when they had their home regional game.

It was also very nice watching you gentleman take care of business against Jurupa Hills. They tried that intimidation BS with us also. Good teams don’t get phased by that. It just gets them even more hype. Congrats again Lions. Good Luck in STATE.

CIF dint put the schedule in front of them bozo. The coaches did. That’s why they had a sub par preseason schedule. They had no choice in league or playoff schedule but they did in preseason. Bottom line…Who knows who wins between Adelanto and EM. If you say EM wins without a doubt you’re an EM homer or a dummy. No one here has a crystal ball. It would have been a dog fight. EM was lucky Adelanto brawled. A guaranteed ring for EM. If they had to play it would be different. I would say it’d be a great game. Too bad we will never know. Congrats to the EM boys and the transfers. You deserve to be champs no matter what.

Booth kept them in on offense JJ did great on defense while a pair of freshmen stepped up with a pair of fumble recoveries one to close the game out. #36 even had a interception to end it but a flag kept it going. With all that it was El Montes discipline that won them the game. Because both semi finals games could of ended in forfeits the way JH was acting.

Great post Mr. Goldbricker. I agree with you. Split second can determine a person. So, the blame to this situation should fall on the coaching staffs for not discipline their players enough. I was reading at their twitter accounts, coaches and players. After seeing what they posted, I can see why they act like they did that night. Many Twitters also posting about Adelanto players barking and taunting other teams too. So, this is not the first time. Anyway, back to to Lions game vs JH. Booth was great, but my game ball would go to JJ. He is not only shut down JH’s best receiver, he made a, what would be a turning point of the game, safety tackle that put the Lions ahead. JJ was nothing but a beast this year. He get my vote for co-MVP with Booth.

All of the El Monte haters are going to be out if force with this. Bottom line is this situation totally falls on the players and coaches at Adelanto-no one else! Having seen them last year, to say that they were a very undisciplined group-from the coaches down to the players-would be an understatement. That they were involved in this ugly situation with Orange Vista is a surprise to no one that has seen them play. The fact that the CIF decided that the brawl situation was so bad that they declared the game a double forfeit tells me all I need to know. I am sure that the Lions players and coaches would MUCH rather play and win on the field, but this situation is totally out of their control. Congrats to all of the Lion players and coaches on a great season, and Good Luck in the State Bowl game.

After winning the 2013 title against Cineceros’s Norwalk Lancers in the most improbable way, Frankie Palmer declared: “the Lord works in mysterious ways.” The Lord apparently made-up for those earlier workings by anointing Jesse a CIF winner this year in an equally amazing manner…a double forfeit. No word yet on whether the delivery of the championship plaque will come with free shipping, because the $25 minimum total will not be reached.
As to the merits of this title, let me say emphatically that the EM Lions under Jesse Cineceros are entirely deserving of the award, because sportsmanship is part of the game, and in that regard, the locals shine. Congratulations.

  46. November 24, 2019 - 3:43 pm | Permalink

Sucks it had to be this way but the rules are in place for a reason. You can’t have teams behaving in that manner without repercussions. Also before the hate comes into play here, this is no fault of the Lions. They held they’re end of the bargain. They wanted this rematch they earned this rematch Adelanto failed to keep its cool while up 41-0. I’ve seen twitter talking about EM needs their moment and yes they won’t get it on the field but 13 have tried and 13 have failed . EM you guys are champions and no one can change that. Congratulations El Monte Lions.
One note from the JH game… everyone will talk about Booth and deservedly so. JH did a pretty good job on him with limiting his big runs with the exception of two. But I thought the story of the game was Reyes #2 Ability covering a 6’4 speed demon receiver and blanking him all night. Not to mention and huge hit on the JH sidelines that probably saved a touchdown.
