(Bell Gardens) – Clay Johnston, the former head coach at LA Marshall, has been named the new head football coach at Bell Gardens the school announced Thursday.
Johnston replaces Margarito Beltran who resigned after four years. Marshall went 4-8 overall last year but did advance to the second round of the playoffs before losing to Northern.
Bell Gardens finished 4-6 last season and missed the playoffs.
BG football just hired the best kept secret in the Southeast and SG Valley in terms of HS football genius. A great offensive and defensive mind mentored by the best motivator and proven winner in the Mission Valley and Foothill leagues – legendary Coach Ken Davis.
I won’t let the great but not surprisingly news regarding the new BG Head football coach – I’ll leave that to Mid Valley Sports to announce with great interest and vigor.
LA Marshall? LA Marshall does not even have a football team anymore. Thank god my son will not be attending BGHS
Welcome to BG coach hope we can bring back the winning ways back to the Gardens. Cant wait to see the new offense work. “BG YOU KNOW”
Got to meet him this week. He was head coach at Marshall 4 years from 2014 to 2018. Won the City Championship in Div 3 in 2017. It’s not CIF though.
I liked what he preached at the meeting. My boy said the kids really like him.
Let’s hope he can help BG win a CIF Championship.
Big names couldn’t do it. Newell, Ramos, Ackerman, Beltran.
Let’s see what a no-namer can do.
Hope he can get BG back to the old Newell days, when we played for CIF championship!
Never heard of Johnston. What does his resume look like besides last year at Marshall
Good one! Who really got the job.
