"Whoever said we were terrorists?"

T-Minus-91 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good Afternoon!

Those folks in Philadelphia have got to be sick today…

Got three tips via messaging, Facebook, and Email on three different players.

First: “Joe, you are missing the boat on Daleep Sandhu (La Canada).”

Second: “David Poyet is going to have a better year than anyone thinks at Los Altos. He doesn’t need (Ryan) Longoria.”

Third: “More (Nick) Bueno!”

First off I might agree with you on Sandhu, I believe he is going to get a bunch of carries this season as LC becomes more committed to the run. Second, I saw Poyet throw in the Spring of 2009 and thought he looked pretty good. It should go well for him with Arellanes and staff in place.”

Finally, the easiest thing in the world would be to fill my daily 600-hundred word allotment by talking about Monrovia’s Nick Bueno. Yes, Bueno is great. It’s been established he’s great. He’s going to have another great year. But me focusing on Bueno, or Steven Rivera, or Taylor Lagace everyday isn’t exactly giving you anything new.

You know what I want to talk about? Transfers. I want to talk about mega-leagues. Let’s merge the Rio Hondo and Mission Valley into one giant league (you know they sort of did that before back in the 1970’s). How about a local prep football network with blanket access, not just regional (by city), to the entire Mid-Valley and Southeast areas?

Yeah, and in the off season we could cover some of the other sports.

My favorite line today came from the NCAA news release about USC: “The committee noted that the violations in this case strike at the heart of the NCAA amateurism principal, which states that intercollegiate athletics should be motivated primarily by education and its benefits.”

Amateurism? That’s like that line in Die Hard when Hans Gruber says: “Whoever said we were terrorists?”

In the four league Southeast Division, only the Jack Del Rio League is operating in the traditional six team format.

We spoke with Rick Zepeda early in the Spring about what El Rancho has coming back, but the defending champs are the Condors out of Cal High.

Jim Arnold has graduated out a ton of talent, and his non-league schedule looks to be anything but soft. Four of the five (Rowland, La Mirada, Schurr, and Montebello) figure to be battles and league itself should be tough.

This isn’t meant to be a full Condor preview, but a player you can look to being a possible replacement for Terris Jones next fall is Justin Dankert. The junior to be has nice size, some experience, and its in his blood. Father Joe Dankert led Mt. View to back to back playoff appearances in the late 1980’s.

A pair of USC alums chimed in about possible Pac 10 expansion into the midwest.

USC’s Mike Mooney: “Love it–big time schools with great tradition. Major upgrades to competition across the board which is always a good thing. Must compete with the television deals the Big Ten and SEC have secured when the PAC 10 gets to renegotiate next year.”

USC’s Matt Koffler: “I think the expansion is good! I believe the Pac-10 conference is the best in all sports. A couple more teams to compete with is always good. We can show the rest of the country how good the conference is since we sometimes get a bad rap around the country.”

Speaking of higher education, the National College Board voted unaimously to change the spelling of the word “fool” from its traditional F-O-O-L to M-A-S-O-L-I in honor of the former Oregon quarterback.

Last Add Higher Education: With the blade of sanctions falling on USC its clear the NCAA will continue to never let an opportunity pass to punish the righteous instead of the wicked.

…And they sure nailed that womens tennis program for all of those long distance phone calls. It’s about time.

Other than Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo was anybody else on the take? Let me think…Mmm…John Calipari, John Wall… John Calipari, Derrick Rose… Nah, nothing wrong with those guys at all.

Have I told you I have always been a Dodgers fan…They are smokin hot right now.

Great exchange between Andy “Did You Hear About This One” Villanueva and former San Gabriel Athletic Director John Scanlan on Facebook last night.

Andy: “Ladies please understand that US men will not be emotionally, physically or mentally available for the next 30 days beginning on Friday. Any comments, questions or threats will be addressed after July 11.”

John: “I’m more than available. About .01% of men won’t be, but most of them could never pull a woman anyway, so it will be business as usual.”

Stay thirsty my friends…
