(El Monte) – Victor Romero (Ambruso) has been tapped as the successor to Jesse Ceniceros as the head football coach at El Monte. Romero’s last stint as a head coach was at Mt. View.
Romero was the head coach at Mt. View from 2012-2017. The Vikings went 21-39 during his six-year tenure.
El Monte didn’t play last season due to COVID-19 restrictions but went undefeated and won the CIF and State championships in 2019. Ceniceros stepped down in June for personal reasons.
“It should be a smooth transition because we’re going to keep the double-wing offense and the 4-3 defense,” Romero said.
Romero is getting a great group of kids and I believe is the right man for the job. He knows what these EM boys are capable of coming from MV. He’s not gonna mess with what they know and he’s gonna expect nothing but 100% from these kids and he’s gonna get it.
As for the admins, they’re a joke. Not letting a guy coach cause he’s born and raised in the neighborhood and didn’t forget that like the principal did who says he’s from El Monte. Wtf they supposed to do have lifelong friends stay away just cause they choose a different lifestyle then you?
“Oh no I can’t be seen with you.”
You don’t know how much behind the scenes stuff admins didn’t have to deal with cause having a guy like that on staff.
You had a staff of guys that grew up like these kids that we’re these kids. A staff that showed these kids they could be someone coming from the streets for reals, and not just saying you grew up in the neighborhood but stood inside all day and probably got smacked around. These admins especially Torres and these other dorks wanna just baby them and have him wear there rainbow flags. Gtfoh! Grow and pair admins and stop letting the women bully you.
@um
Thank you. Talent has been there for a long time.
Ohk den hahaha
In comparison to Mt. View, El Monte brings in more talent. Especially those that play football before high school. Not a whole lot but it’s an improvement.
Come on guy. El Monte has had some dudes before Booth.
The line the last two years, Herrera brothers, Lopez, Cueva, Darlin, Ochoa… could go on.
Where is all this talent y’all speak of, save for Booth what athletes did El Monte have in the last few years.
Great hire for the Lions!!!!!
Any football coach is doomed at MV. Quite honestly, he’s probably the best guy for the job. He’s going to have more to work with at EM. Great guy, great coach, good luck.
Damn happy for coach. He’s a hell of a man and one hell of a coach. Great pick up. The lions will be in good hands with Romero leading the way. Much better talent at EMHS then MV. Now we can really see what he can do as a coach.
I played for Ambruso for years. We heard him going on and on about family and team 1st. Blah, blah, blah and how he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else other than Mountain View. I get some of it was motivation but a lot of the stuff he preached just went down the toilet. I guess changing his name to Romero changed his thinking. One Blood?! What a joke!
Taking this long to hire a head coach does not speak well for the El Monte administration. I’m betting they have lost players to Arroyo and South.
Stand up guy. Congrats, coach.
Is he going to be teaching at El Monte now? He should be. I heard he’s an “Interim” Head Coach until they find someone else. Is this true? If it is, the El Monte administration and Coach Romero should be ashamed of themselves and they should realize a commitment to the El Monte Football program is what’s needed. Both parties should be all in for the kids.
Go Lions!!
By all I’ve heard Victor Romero is a fine guy. But, it still doesn’t explain why you run off a state champion head coach in Ceniceros.
Interesting to see what he does with better talent as with mt.view he did a lot with little talent
