Partridge Still Perfect

A crowd of 2,000 fans witnessed the largest car count in Skid Plate Racing with 28 racecars lining up for a standing start as the final race of the evening.

A trend took place on Saturday as all of the fastest qualifiers came from the sixth spot on the starting grid to win each Main Event race.

VISTA PAINT SUPER STOCKS – 30 LAPS

Gerrit Cromsigt took the lead after the second lap of the race and led the remaining 28 laps to win his second-straight Vista Paint Super Stock division race.

VPSS division leader Rich DeLong III extended his series lead by two points by finishing second for the second-straight race.  DeLong lead the first lap of the race before getting passed by Cromsigt out of turn three.

Bryan Harrell who is chasing DeLong for the title, finished third to stay within striking distance.

Cromsigt was never challenged until the final three laps, when DeLong went for the pass on the inside but was unsuccessful.

JUSTICE BROTHERS MINI-STOCKS – 35 LAPS

An unbelievable spin of events punctuated Rod Schmitt’s first victory of the season when a half-lap lead by Jacob Rogers turned into a fifth place when he spun coming out of turn four with seven laps remaining.

The race was marred by strange events as JBMS series leader Darryl Scoggins unexpectedly pulled off the track while running in second on the 11th lap of the race.  His DNF was the first of the season and 10th place was his worst finish of the year.

Rogers appeared unbeatable once Scoggins left and built a commanding lead prior to his mishap, he was still able to chip away to gain on the series leader with his fifth place finish.  Rogers spin occurred to running on old tires.

With Schmitt inheriting the win, his teammates Kevin Bernhardt and Fred Adams ran second and third.

KING TACO SUPER TRUCKS – 40 LAPS

At the half-way point of the King Taco Super Truck series one thing is perfectly clear.  Ryan Partridge has been dominating and it doesn’t appear that anyone has an answer to beat him.

In seven races, Partridge has gone on to the “Winner’s Circle” in all seven races.

For seven laps it appeared that rookies Ken Maler Jr. and Andrew Anderson might have had the truck to defeat Partridge.

It was edge of your seat racing from laps 1-7 as Maler, Anderson and Partridge were three-wide battling for the lead.  Maler was able to lead for three laps, while Anderson led three others before succumbing to Partridge’s low pass out of turn four.

Partridge would end up winning by 4.175 seconds, while Maler and Anderson were separated by .301 seconds for second and third.

ECHO EQUIPMENT LEGEND CARS – 35 LAPS

Darren Amidon continued the trend of fastest qualifiers winning their series as he came from sixth to take the lead on the 16th lap.

Amidon is on top of his game by winning his fourth straight victory in the EELC.

Series leader Brent Scheidemantle continued his consistent finishing with his third straight second place finish.

Scheidemantle led for ten laps before getting passed by Amidon on the low line of turn one.

The race featured four lead changes as Amidon, Scheidemantle, Chad Schug and Jordan Hyland all had the lead for one lap each.

With his second place finish, Scheidemantle increased his lead over Schug by two points.  He now leads 348-336 in points.

AUTO CLUB LATE MODELS – 40 LAPS

Reigning Auto Club Late Model Champion Nick Joanides took the series to school with an easy 1.275 second victory in the ACLM division.

It didn’t take long for the Joanides to get the lead in the race on the fourth lap as he passed race leader Travis Irving on his preferred low line.

Joanides never was pressured during the night and even pulled away during a 19th lap re-start after George Atkinson spun in turn four.

Rookie Rod Johnson Jr continued to press Joanides for the series lead as he finished third.  Johnson battled Irving, Chris Holloway and Brandon Davis for second place.  Irving ended up getting the second spot as Holloway nearly spun on the second to last lap.

It was Joanides third race of the season in the ACLM division and his sixth at the track this year.  He has won two Pepsi Super Late Models and a Skid Plate race.

SKID PLATE – 20 LAPS

After breaking a camshaft in three places in his Justice Brothers Mini-Stock, Darryl Scoggins came out in the Skid Plate race and drove a grey Ford Pinto to victory.

It was supposed to be Scoggins brother Ed who was supposed to start the race, but allowed Darryl to start the race.

In a race featuring only front-wheel drive cars and no tires on the back wheels, it was Scoggins who was impressive with smooth lines to take the checkered flag.

Gabriella Hansen who is fresh out of graduating from St Joseph’s HS finished third for her second consecutive podium finish.

John Zimmerman rallied for second as he passed Hansen on the second to last lap when she spun.
