One thing about Muir, almost every other season the media predicts Muir’s demise. Much like what has happened to Muir’s neighbor Blair High, a once nationally ranked football program. I think they play flag now. Media types predict every year that Muir has a coaching problem, administration problem, bad kids problem, no body wants to go there problem not to mention the scary fans that hang outside the fence watching the game in the dark. Yet every year Muir thrives and probably puts more players in D1 colleges and the NFL than any public in socal. I’am not sure who to give credit to for Muir’s success year after year but I think I know, its the kids.
Last week I thought I had Covid, but it turns out it was just a bad case of Willig. Thanks to all commenters for highlighting this affliction.
Stop saying I’m not a Willig… I am and i care what goes on at SP. Just because you think it’s ok for us to be mediocre, I’m not ok with it. We were always better than everyone else. We will never be that school again. They should rename the “pit” to Chris n pits…
You ain’t Willig and I ain’t Brandon
It is a Willig… Don’t get it confused. These coaches don’t care about our program. At one time long ago this was a special place. Now it’s just a place that people don’t care about. All this starts with Zepeda. He needs to play better teams and not all these cupcakes. Look what happened when they played SF. They got beat easily. Get it together SP. It will never be the same
Clearly its not a willig. Old school SP. The willigs have more class.
NO gap is closing. CAL QB looked lost. The RB got most of his yards on the long break-away run in the 3rd. Other than that he wasn’t an issue. He runs hard but thats it. The “Gap” will be wide open the next 2 years. CAL has no depth. I know it makes u feel good to think you won a moral victory. But whatever it takes to make you feel good. The score should have been 28-0 poor play calling on LS side.
@ A-Town: Those stops helped us win. That’s all I’m saying. It’s a start.
How did the defense grow Montebello scored there second most points this year there offense has struggled all year long they average 17 points a game. We did come up with some stops but nothing to talk about
@ A-Town: Well, Alhambra’s defense improved before our very own eyes on Friday night. After we fell behind, 21-13, early in the second quarter, the defense stiffened and allowed the Oilers just one more score the rest of the game.
Then, after Michael Gonzalez’s 32-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Soto put us ahead, 34-27, with 3:36 left, Soto returned an interception 52 yards for a TD to put the game away.
Now that’s defense. Hopefully, we’ll continue playing that way for the rest of the season.
It’s an effective strategy, just need to convert on offense, from the film I saw Cal had their chances just couldn’t convert
@ron the problem is our defense sucks everyone moves the ball on us we hope we can outscore the other team or bend and don’t break
@ Oiler Observer: Most of Montebello’s skill players are juniors, and one’s a sophomore, which leads me to suspect that they’ll be good next year—at least on offense. They gained 317 total yards on Friday night, so they did move the ball pretty well.
Schurr is back
@FBFan, did you even see the game. The Cal defense held its own against La Sernas offense. And the Cal’s rushing game was effective. But 3 interceptions, including one for a pick 6 are killers. La Serna was the better team that night. But the gap is closing. The La Serna coaching staff better be out looking for players who want to transfer in, and scouting all the local and out of district Pop Warner Leagues to keep program where it’s at. Because if they had to rely on kids from “Friendly Hills” neighborhoods, they would be a doormat. And everyone knows it.
Looks like Cal used a very similar strategy that ER used in the spring. Try and kill the clock and keep it from LS
Problem is, Amat is no lock to take the D2 title either. For a guaranteed good time, have a trophy shop make you a plaque that says you beat everyone.
Which Willig is this if it’s really a Willig?? The ones who haven’t had too much success outside of “old school” days, or the one who sent their kid to play for Gahr HS instead of their old stomping grounds that they’re so proud of?
Montebello has some decent talent, watching their game last night. They were moving the ball, then the defense got going a little better in the second half. Just turnover at end and some stalled drives to start the second half. I wonder how much their DC quitting or getting fired early in the season hurt them? But they’ve almost given up 40 every game so did it matter?
