All Arroyo All Knight, 45-0

Omar Navarro led the way for the Knights with 4 touchdowns rushing and 1 throwing.

By Tim Peterson

(El Monte) – Omar Navarro ran for four touchdowns and threw for another in a 45-0 rout of rival Rosemead Friday night at B.L. Bergstrom Stadium.

It was all Arroyo from the opening kick. Rosemead advanced into Arroyo territory only once all night, at the end of the  first quarter as the Panthers drove down to the Knight 25 but they were stopped on fourth down. They never had a sniff of the goal line.

“We Knew they could score. They dropped 77 last week,” said Arroyo head coach Chuck Leonardis. “They have a lot of athletes that can do a lot of things so we knew we had do play well on defense.”

The Knights were halted on their first drive at the Rosemead 20 yard line but Albert Lopez kicked a 37-yard field goal.

After a Rosemead fumble, Arroyo set up shop at the Panther 27. six plays later Navarro scored on a three-yard run for a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter.

The Knights cashed in again in the first half as Navarro again scored from three yards out to cap a 9-play, 56 yard drive for a 17-0 lead with 3:46 left in the second quarter.

The Knights picked up right where they left off on the first drive of the third quarter. Arroyo marched 74 yards on 7 plays. Navarro zig-zagged for a 28-yard touchdown scamper right through the Rosemead defense for a 24-0 lead. That touchdown seemed to rip the heart out of the Panthers.

“We talked about it at halftime. We needed to come out in the second half and make a statement,” Leonardis said.

But the Knights were far from finished. Arroyo struck quickly later in the quarter. Navarro hit Joseph Enriquez in stride on a slant right over the middle. Enriguez caught it and was off to the races. 72 yards later he crossed the finish line to make it 31-0.

The Knights added two more scores in the fourth quarter for good measure. Navarro picked up his fourth touchdown on the ground on a two-yard run to finish a 69-yard drive with 10:55 left.

While running out the clock late in the fourth Efrain Carbajal kept on running for a 77-yard touchdown. When the dust had settled the Knights had a racked up a 45-0 win.

Navarro had 13 carries for 104 yards and the 4 touchdowns and threw for 109 yards and a score.  Ishmael Ceja had 14 carries for 57 yards and Enriguez had 4 catches for 100 yards and the big 72-yard touchdown.

For Rosemead Jayden Campbell had  57 yards on 11 carries and quarterback Damian Martinez threw for 78 yards and an interception. The Panthers were never able to gain any traction on the Arroyo defense.

With the victory Arroyo is in control of the Mission Valley League and is still undefeated at 8-0, 3-0 in league. Rosemead dropped to 3-5 and 2-1 in the MVL.

So that’s your excuse big man, you didn’t have better athletes than EM so you lost? No no no sorry you said your coaches had champion DNA so a team like EM should have been an easy dub because your coaches are soooooo good.
(Eye roll) having watched multiple games from every team in the MVL SEM has the second best talent in league. why one could make the assumption that the coaches are what’s costing the Eagles games right now. That’s pretty bad considering EM runs 4-6 plays 90% of the time so to be unprepared is unacceptable. Either way you are providing all the insight needed as to why your team is losing “Coach”

What do you want me to say? we lost no excuses WE LOST! It happens we don’t have the luxury of having the best talent in league the deepest pool to pull from like you guys so we lose sometimes. kinda like when you guys lost to EM and Rosemead couple years ago. you guys couldn’t coach your way out that did you?

I’m surprised you came back on here after that deplorable performance on Friday. But don’t think you can just change the subject, we all want to know what happened against EM dezzy? What excuses do you have now?

Arroyo chirping about EM state title or recruiting is the tea pot calling the kettle black! How Many Kids on that championship team were supposed to go to other MVL schools? Starting with the QB who should have gone to MT View! They also stole their best receiver from south hills! so stop crying @Fridaytykes.

Being bothered by my tweets and “rants” is weak, hiding behind a screen name is weak. My son and son in law could care less about what is being said about them in the stands. They know what talent they are working with. They can’t hear it. It’s offensive to me and the other spectators. I do agree that it’s part of the game! And I genuinely love it. My tweets and rants are mine, so keep scrolling if you don’t want to read them. You don’t know me or the coaches. You know what else is weak “don’t say anything about Rosemead football because Mom in law will get mad” what are you 12?

Lost in all this talk about talent drains and Rosemead tradition is the fact that Arroyo’s new coach Leonardis is doing a great job. In this sport, the youngsters play not so much for their school as for their head coach, and it’s no surprise that the Knights are tough fundamentally, just like their leader.

I agree with you, Rosemead being in D11 and Arroyo in 12 made absolutely no sense. Arroyo that year should have with out a doubt been placed in in D11. Mt view that year had a two very good football players even had an 1800 yard back that gave Arroyo headaches. And SEM had a team that went to the semi finals led by there own stud in Sal Tovar who I believe rushed for over 2,000 yards. point being the league had some local stars who brought some intrigue to the league. With out those kids at the “other” schools Arroyo will dominate the league. A couple years ago Rosemead had Osprey who torched Arroyo for over 200 yards rushing and 200 yards passing El Monte had Booth who didn’t kill arroyo that year but the threat of him on the field allowed the other EM backs to beat Arroyo. The MVL needs stars! This why SEMs Ryan Gordiano tanking this season all but killed SEMs chances or Osprey at Rosemead not 100 percent kills the panthers chances. A certain EM RB now donning the Arroyo helmet kills the lions and if that wasn’t enough how about the EM back now at BP. Iron sharpens iron, if the teams from the MVL are gonna have success in the playoffs these teams need to keep their players home.

Den your a loser straight up the lions were given the state champ again two teams fought and were kicked out ‘‘em was given a free state game please come on again El Monte high school has always been trash and weak arroyo has a good team all the kids on that team do have grades not like El Monte high school who have kids that don’t have grades that’s why that running once again couldn’t get to a D1 school because he wasn’t school smart it’s not all
About football it’s about a school who cares about their students that’s why kids rather go to arroyo because they get a better education at arroyo so yeah Den maybe you should go back to high school and go to arroyo because you sound pretty stupid you need a better education and arroyo high school can help you with that you DELETED

Demographics can hurt a team but play calling can also hurt a team as well. A program like Rosemead should not be losing 45-0 to Arroyo.

Friday Knights Get Back Coach…what!!!!! let’s take a look at 2016, the year Arroyo won the CIF title. Ok, South was good then. I’ll give you that one. Good, not great. A good team for the View is a .500 team. That year Mt. View was 3-7 guy. Typical crappy Mt. View team. Rosemead was 2-8 that year and they lost to Marshall…Marshall! They sucked that year. Marshall won 6 games that year which is amazing for them but they were still not a good football team. Even if there was “monsters” in D12 that year Arroyo had no business being in D12 that year. That same season Rosemead was in D11. It sounds like you don’t know what you’re talking about. Go move the chains.

Mr.Express is back you sound like a bitter old EM coach. EM did what they had to do for their title and as for Arroyo how high of divisions should MVL teams be? Could only win where you’re put and that’s it.

As much as I dislike Arroyo and especially FridayKnights There’s a lot of teams wishing they could be 0-1 in the playoffs even though I believe they do make another run this year in the right division.

Idk about any admin being told anything or any mom/in law being attacked. Just saying coming on the boards/Twitter ranting about parents/fans yelling at the staff is sadly part of the game so you doing that just makes them look so weak.

D12 had some monsters in the bracket plus that’s when South El Monte was a dog fight and rosemead was good even Marshall was decent and so was the View. Sounds like you don’t know what you’re talking about.

You could put Nick Saban at Rosemead and it wouldn’t matter. Arroyo is flat out better than Rosemead. Arroyo continues to bring in the big dogs and rest of the MVL gets the scraps. Back to normal. Now that the Transfer Express is done at El Monte it’ll get even worse. At least El Monte could steal a couple of kids from Arroyo and South when those other guys were there. Arroyo is back to being a big fish in a small pond. El Monte is back to 2-8. If we’re being honest I’m not sure who was gifted the CIF title more. El Monte or Arroyo. El Monte didn’t have to play for theirs and Arroyo was in D12 for some stupid reason. That’s my rant.

The Rosemead parenting comment doesn’t surprise me. I happened to be in the same gym when they were playing last weekend and witnessed a few parents going off. They clearly didn’t have much basketball knowledge and viewed their son was doing amazing, maybe because the officials kept calling his number….for fouling….

Hey TE, so glad you are following me on my post. Bad coaching again huh? what about bad parenting? Athlete not performing? Missed tackles, misses passes? Arroyo out played us not because of bad play calling. They were the better team. @ Panthers come watch some film on a Saturday so you can wrap your head around what happened last night because if your idea of learning football is Madden I’m concerned. Teach your athlete to be better not bitter. Don’t lose sleep over Coach Matt and staff. They won’t be around for long and then we will see who comes in and tolerates you. Aggressively verbally attacking a FEMALE administrator last night and now attacking a MOM who is supporting her son and son in law and is worried about being “scolded” on the boards…..This is truly what football has become. Good luck in the play offs Arroyo you won and deserve all the play off games coming your way!
Side note: Everyone in the stands is over you.

Pure domination! Arroyo dominated this ball game from the opening whistle. Navarro is a player for the knights. But, where Arroyo separated itself was in the trenches. Arroyo is a physical team and they just flat out get after it. Knights will go 10-0! Any thoughts on what division they’ll be placed in?
