Game Night: D-4 Regional Bowl

Saturday December 4 – Kickoff set for 6:00 p.m.

Northview (8-6) at Colony (7-6)

It’s been a tale of two seasons for both teams. Colony started the season 0-5 but has won 7 of 8 since then including 6 straight. Northview started 2-5 and has gone 6-1 since including last week’s 27-20 win over St. Anthony to win the Division 10 CIF title. The Vikings defense has been the story. They held high powered Palmdale to 14 points in the semi finals and shut down a Kaiser ground game the week before after Kaiser had rushed for over 600 yards in the previous game. Colony’s offense has been lighting it up. The Titans outscored St. Margaret’s 49-41 in the CIF Division 9 Finals and scored 94 points in the first two playoff games. If the Vikings get into a shootout they could be in trouble. They will need to get the ground attack going and play good defense to have a chance. A score in the twenties would benefit Northview. The Vikes will make it work for awhile, but in the end Colony’s offense will be too much. The Titans pull away in the second half.

Re Mater Dei– The story is front page on the LA Times so it is not going away. there will be hell to pay and no covering it up as boys will be boys.

Put a spotlight on violent hazing, and everyone at the school will have to answer questions and the results will not taste good.

I watched the video kids were going body blows. One accidentally hit the other in the face, so he hit him back with like a two or three piece to throw face. Kid walked away with a bloody nose and swollen eye it looked like.

Kid that hit him with the combo to the face obviously didn’t like him cause just cause you get hit in the face once in body blows you don’t take flight, you get it back with a chin check.

No the kid that got hit was going to die or need to go to the hospital he had never been hit in the face before so he didn’t know how to react with the blood. Maybe a slight concussion (which is horrible) but everyone make it seem like he was getting beaten in the locker.

It happens, it’s dumb but it happens. I’ve seen videos of multiple area schools football players going bloody blows or just even fighting. Nobody is complaining cause they don’t have the money too plus the kid probably took it like a gee.

@ Question Mark: The back story is slightly convoluted and involves a NASCAR event, but that chant or slogan is now a somewhat politer substitute for “**** Joe Biden.”
No one on any side of a political debate is perfect, and I believe that sort of public disrespect is unacceptable, no matter who is guilty of it.

@ NWO: There was an alleged incident of hazing that occurred with the Mater Dei varsity football team last February. One player reportedly beat up another player who was considerably smaller, allegedly breaking that player’s nose and causing a traumatic brain injury.
The parents of the injured player transferred their son to another school and are currently suing Mater Dei and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange County, essentially for allowing the alleged incident to take place.

@ Furthermore: Sanitizing or misrepresenting things has been a common practice for ages. Look at how we got into the Vietnam and Iraq wars. And, yeah, the people who attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 were just “tourists.”

And if Mater Dei high school is able to sanitize this, there’s no doubt that the U.S. government is doing a whole lot of the same on a daily basis. We’re living in a world where nothing matters and anything goes.

@ MD: I believe you have a solid take there. I wouldn’t be surprised if no criminal charges are ever filed over this incident. However, look for Mater Dei and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange County to settle the lawsuit as quickly and quietly as possible with a payout of, say, a million dollars or so.
In the meantime, Coach Rollinson doesn’t admit to knowing anything about hazing at Mater Dei and continues to run the football program for another year or two before quietly retiring.
    End of story. Maybe.

Waiting to see who Rollinson plays. Cif and the OC DA have gone the Pontius Pilate route. “I wipe my hands of the whole thing”. CIF says no comment and the DA says mutual combat. So if I get this right, if you are bullied into a fight with a mucscled up hulk twice your size and you fight back then its mutual combat. That’s like saying the gladiators vs the Christians was mutual combat. If a woman hits a guy with her purse while he is harrasing her I guess the guy gets off on self-defense and sues the girl for assault. I gotta assume plenty of this MD type locker room crap goes on out of sight of cameras. Lucky for this kid someone filmed it. I’m guessing MD is playing the long game on this one. Hold out until the public forgets about it.

Let’s put this all in perspective here:

Division 1- Mater Dei vs. Servite. Was done the right way. But it’s time to put the top 4 teams in CIF-SS in some kind of national bracket. Team that got screwed most in D-1 was Norco

Division 2- Great game between O-Lu & Alemany. Team that got screwed most in D-2 was Yorba Linda

Division 3- Apple Valley playing a down Serra team who usually is in D-1. Not a good way to show equity. Team that got screwed most in D-3 was Ayala.

Division 4- LB Poly was crowned champs as soon as the bracket came out. Team that got screwed most in D-4 was Palm Desert

Division 5- Valencia vs. Oaks Christian should be more like a D-2 or D-3 title. Team that got screwed most in D-5 was St. Genevieve

Division 6- Newport Harbor barely snuck into the playoffs and was able to pull of a ring. That doesn’t happen in other years. Team that got screwed most in D-6 was Monrovia.

Division 7- Aquinas should be a D-4/D-5 school but they did have to play 3 schools in the playoffs with lots of transfers on their way to the title. Team that got screwed most in D-7 was El Rancho

Division 8- Serrano may be one of the few teams who got what they deserved here. Team that got screwed most in D-8 was either Cal or Muir.

Division 9- Colony did what they should have done which is mow over a division that they were by far the best team in. Team taht got screwed most in D-9 was Arroyo

Division 10- Northview won a big game and did great in the playoffs, but if any loss in the regular season smells, it’s Northview’s loss to Los Altos. Reports say they tanked the 2nd half to drop in divisions. Team that got screwed most in Division 10 is Schurr

Division 11- If Irvine got screwed by being in a high division, Northwood made up for it. Team that got scrwed most in Division 11 is Baldwin Park.

Division 12-14. If you’re here, it was a blessing.
