  1. The Cleveland Browns beat the New York Jets 21-16 Thursday night in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. 
  2. 2023 NFL Hall of Fame inductees: Ronde Barber, Don Coryell, Chuck Howley, Joe Klecko, Darrelle Revis, Ken Riley, Joe Thomas, Zach Thomas, DeMarcus Ware. 
  3. The Tennessee Titans released RT Jamarco Jones after his second practice altercation this week. 
  4. Max Scherzer struck out nine over six innings and picked up the victory in his debut with the Texas Rangers in a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox Thursday. 
  5. The NFL season kicks off Thursday night September 7 with the Detroit Lions at the Kansas City Chiefs. 
  6. Muir at Northview (Covina District Field) Thursday night, August 17, 7:00 p.m. 
  7. Former NBA first round draft pick Terrence Williams was sentenced to 10 years in prison for conspiracy to commit heath care and wire fraud against the NBA’s Health and Welfare Benefit plan. Williams was the 11th overall pick in the 2009 draft by the then New Jersey Nets and spent four years in the league with four different teams. 
  8. On this date in 1984 Carl Lewis won the 100m in 9.9 seconds at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. It was the first of his 9 Olympic gold medals over 3 games. 
  9. Roger Clemens, 7-time Cy Young Award winner, turns 61 today.
