(El Monte)–After a tight first half, the Arroyo Knights broke open their Mission Valley League contest with the El Monte Lions in the second half and won, 33-0, at B.L. Bergstrom Stadium.

La Serna dropped out of the Top 20 after being stunned by Santa Fe. Downey lost to Paramount but they pushed it to overtime before falling. CV won again to stay unbeaten but the Falcons had to work to put away Pasadena. Charter Oak, St. Francis and Arroyo remained undefeated as well.

(Downey) The Paramount Pirates traveled into the hostile waters of Allen Layne Stadium in Downey Friday night. The game was tied after regulation and in the end, an extra point was the difference as the Pirates outlasted the Vikings 21-20 in both teams San Gabriel Valley League opener.
