Thursday October 7, 2010

PACIFIC
Burbank (3-1, 1-0) at Glendale (0-4, 0-1)

Last Meeting: 2009 Burbank 61-3

Since 2001 Burbank leads series 8-1

Bulldogs must guard from a let-down after last week’s emotional win over Muir. Adam Colman is throwing for 183 yards a game. Ulises Ochoa comes out of the backfield and is dangerous returning kicks. Two quality receivers in Ryan Thanaratnam and Jose Rodriguez have 11 catches each on the season.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Nitros who are only averaging 15 points per game. Keep an eye on Alex Manukian at running back as he scored against Crescenta Valley. Alex Yoon is taking snaps under center and must manage the game for Glendale.

HACIENDA
Bonita (4-1, 0-0) at Diamond Bar (4-1, 0-1)

Last Meeting: 2003 Diamond Bar 38-17

Bearcats should have Garrett Pendleton back after missing the first five games. Reggie Turner and Giomani Johnson balance a very good spread offense. Matt Gelalich and Cameron Salce are the go-to receivers for Spathias. Defensively, Eric Mikity leads the team with 14 tackles a game.

Brahmas began the Hacienda League last Friday by being shut out against Diamond Ranch. Two quarterback tandem with Andrew Cameron and Henry Omana continues as coach John Martin goes with the hot hand. Josh Villoria and George Katrib are reliable receivers.

Bonita 35-21

Diamond Ranch (2-3, 1-0) at Walnut (2-2, 0-1)

Not surprised by the fact the Panthers won, it was by how impressive they won against Diamond Bar. Chase Price and Jacoby Carter are each capable of breaking a run for a touchdown as evident by Carter’s 95-yard run against the Brahmas. Marquis Cherry on defense makes it difficult for opposing teams to fling down the field.

Different league, same result against West Covina last week didn’t help the Mustangs in terms of playoff picture early in league play. Brandon Roach is a good game caller. Aubrey Coleman shows every week why he is regarded as a Division I player. Jason Tsukada will have to be very physical on the defensive side of the ball.

West Covina (CA) at Rowland (Rowland Heights, CA), 7:00pm

Last Meeting: 2009 West Covina 32-10

Since 2001West Covina leads series 7-2

Both teams know each other well and have had some great battles in the old San Antonio League. This game will add to those matchups with stars on both sides of the ball.

Bulldogs have running backs galore and will try to keep Michael Ball and the Raiders offense off the field. Maurice Dupleasis is a stud linebacker for West Covina.

Ball has targets in Leonardo Freeman and Danny McMahan.

West Covina 28-21

PACIFIC
Muir (1-3, 0-1) at Arcadia (2-2, 1-1)

Last Meeting: 2009 Muir 27-7

Since 2001 Muir leads 6-3

Mustangs dropped a tough Pacific League opener to Burbank last week for the second straight year. Jeff Davis returned from injury and was nearly flawless. Karl Holmes and Kevon Seymour are Davis’s targets at receiver. The big offensive line will be at a big advantage against the smaller Arcadia line.

This isn’t the same Apache team that played Muir last year as Taylor Legace and Myles Carr are have grown into their positions. Special teams play will be a key as Legace can give Arcadia important field position. Carr now has a two prong running attack with Rodney Arnett and Sheldon McKinney.

Muir 28-21

Hoover (1-3, 0-1) vs. Crescenta Valley (3-1, 1-0) at Glendale HS

Last Meeting: 2009 Crescenta Valley 41-12

Since 2001Crescenta Valley leads series 9-0

Expect an offensive explosion between both clubs. The Tornados have an electrifying offense that must limit turnovers to stay competitive. A.J. Pule has three targets to throw to in Dymond McRae, Devaughn Williams, Jesse Pina. Add Luke Taboyoyong at running back and you can see why Hoover is exciting to watch.

Falcons took a half to get their offense running on all cylinders last Friday as they were held to seven points in the first half against Glendale. Zac Wilkerson can fling the ball and tuck and run, while Marro Lee is turning into an incredible running machine.

Crescenta Valley 35-28

Burroughs (1-3, 1-0) at Pasadena (1-3, 0-2) – Burroughs 35-10

SUBURBAN
Bellflower (4-1, 1-0) vs. Norwalk (2-3, 0-1) at Excelsior Adult School

Last Meeting: 2009 Norwalk 58-7

Since 2001 Bellflower leads series 7-2

It is too early to discuss playoff implications but both teams still need to face La Mirada and could be two games back with four to play.

Buccaneers have a talented duo at running back with Michael Jasper and Travis Newberry. Mike Luevano has four touchdown passes early in the season. Dijon Barnes will be a handful to cover for the Lancers secondary.

Elijhaa Penny is finally healthy and is ready to run wild against Suburban League defenses. Quarterback situation is in flux for Norwalk.

Norwalk 28-21

Santa Fe (1-3) vs Downey (3-1) at Pioneer HS

Last Meeting: 2009 Santa Fe 23-13

Since 2002 Santa Fe leads series 6-0-1

Tough go of late for the Chiefs offense which was shut down by Charter Oak last week. Defensively they have been stout allowing only 58 points in four games. Biggest problem is the offense has not caught up to the defense.

Off to a good start in 2010, the Vikings will test the secondary of Santa Fe with Dallas Lopez at quarterback. Jabari Ruffin and Robert Moss each have accounted for 31 receptions. Good balance on the ground with Kyle Lewis and Ralph Regalado.

Santa Fe 13-10
